Arts Garage first full season of jazz entertainment, performing arts, and art exhibitions continues to attract large audiences

DELRAY BEACH, Florida/November 2, 2011:

Delray Beach’s Arts Garage has quickly become the city’s ‘go to’ spot for a diverse selection of music, art, performance, and entertainment, and the venue’s programming for November and December illustrates beyond a doubt that Arts Garage is now a force to be reckoned with in the South Florida cultural community.

Arts Garage’ casual ambiance, easy accessibility, and the intimacy of the multi-disciplinary performance and exhibition venue – coupled with its B.Y.O.W. (Bring Your Own Whatever!) policy further enhances its success by attracting a wide-ranging audience.  “Our audience trusts us when it comes to our diverse line-up of programming,” says Alyona Ushe, Executive Director of Creative City Collaborative (The Collaborative) at Arts Garage. “We ask our patrons to step outside their comfort zone and attend a program that might not be familiar to them.”  The request has stood Arts Garage in good stead – performances are selling out.

November and December programming will once again offer audiences an eclectic array of choices:  Arts Garage’ acclaimed Jazz Project continues, as does The Jace Vek Experience, Classical Explosion, and Divas in Art.  Puppetry Rampage and Urban Underground are making their debuts; and a new art exhibition will be on display.

He has appeared in recitals, in chamber music, as concerto soloist with major symphony orchestras, and at Jazz Festivals throughout the United States. Chappell and Gershwin’s classic Rhapsody in Blue – a perfect combination.

Some rise above their colleagues in how well and originally they communicate.  One of the latter is Jeffrey Chappell.  His program…was one of the finest this writer has heard.” – New York Times

Saturday, November 12, 2011, 8 PM: Jazz Project ~ Troy Anderson and the Wonderful World Band
Troy Anderson brings Louis ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong to life in a stirring and loving tribute to the world’s greatest great jazz icon. Anderson, trumpet player extraordinaire, has performed and starred as Louis Armstrong with the Gold Coast Jazz Society’s Music Series, and around the United States. For three years he was the lead trumpet with the 2AD(FWD) U.S. Army Jazz Show Band, and it was during that time he was asked by the Army’s Command Sergeant  to put together a show featuring nothing but Louis Armstrong’s greatest hits.  From that assignment the Wonderful World Tribute Band was born.

Anderson is simply amazing as Louis Armstrong.” Stu Grant, South Florida Jazz Radio personality.

Friday, November 18, 2011, 7:30 PM: Inner Reflections – a Solo Art Exhibition featuring Aida Tejada
Inner Reflections – the opening night reception for a Solo Art Exhibition featuring the work of Aida Tejada. Mounted in collaboration with Alliance Française.

Sometimes, your everyday life is esthetically transformed… When common objects are presented in a new perspective, they awake feelings ranging from euphoria to depression and from serenity to restlessness. The images in this project are everyday objects that cross my gaze at home and elsewhere. Objects that are often abandoned, ignored or taken for granted.  The city images are common buildings in ordinary streets. To achieve the desired effect, I create textures and artful compositions with daylight, my camera’s movements, and different reflecting surfaces.” Aida Tejada, Inner Reflections.

Saturday, November 19, 2011, 8 PM: The Jace Vek Experience – The Power of the Piano – Reborn
A unique and original vision of brand new music from Emmy-Award winning composer, concert pianist, and recording artist Jace Vek.  Blurring boundaries of age and culture, The Jace Vek Experience allows the audience an intimate and candid look into the creation of Jace’s music, what inspires him, and his attitude towards the creation of his phenomenal musical productions for piano, symphony orchestra and modern electronica.

When I am making music and sharing it, it is a reflection of something which is a pure instinct .   Wherever I am, whether it is standing on an ocean shore, or in a line at a supermarket deli waiting for my number to be called – I hear music in my head.  It’s not something I can “turn on”, or “turn off”  it is simply there – And as such, sometimes it feels like I can hardly take credit for it;  because it just happens.”  –  Jace Vek

Friday, November 25, 2011, 7:30 PM – Delray Beach String Quartet
The Delray String Quartet has clearly established itself as one of the cultural jewels of Delray Beach and of South Florida. Performing regularly across the region, The Delray String Quartet has been described by the press is as “well-balanced and elegant”, “adding luster to the South Florida music scene”, “with the players ripping into the music with savage abandon.”
Program:
Weber: Clarinet Quintet in B flat major (with Paul Green)
Lehar: Overture to “The Merry Widow”
Piazzolla: Melody in a minor
Zhou Long: Chinese Folk Songs
Jerome Kern: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Saturday, November 26, 2011, 8 PM: Jazz Project ~ Frederico Britos – Back by Popular Demand!
There is no greater proof of the universality of jazz and classical music than that which embodies the career and life work of Federico Britos.  A four time Grammy Award winner, Federico began playing violin at age five in his native Uruguay. Britos has served as principal chair, soloist, and ultimately Concert Master with some of the great symphony orchestras of Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, and Cuba.  During his distinguished career, Federico has performed with greats Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Charles Mingus, and Piazzola.

Although Federico’s prowess on the violin is readily vast in technique and passion, his real musical power stems from the simplicity of delivering easy melodic waves of music that inspire and entertain within the context of Jazz.”  Bobby Ramirez, Jazzonian

Sunday, November 27, 2011, 7 PM: Divas in Art
Outrageously marvelous and consistently captivating – those Divine Divas – Ricky Rollick Klimas, Melissa St. John, and Roxi DeVine will once again grace the stage at Delray’s hottest new cabaret.  These fabulous female illusionists will keep you laughing, entranced and totally entertained!

Patti Gardner, Barbara Sloan and Iris Acker
lead a stellar cast in the BRTG
Production of
The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild has assembled an all star cast for their upcoming production of The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.  The award-winning comedy, which will open at the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park on November 4th, is one of playwright Charles Busch’s most successful plays – it ran on Broadway for over two years. Award-winning actors Patti Gardner, Barbara Sloan, Iris Acker, and Michael Beecher have all signed on to bring Busch’s characters to life.

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife is a comedic exploration of the Upper West side life of Marjorie Taub – middle-aged and middle-class – her loving husband, Ira, and her daily routines at Zabar’s and the 92nd Street “Y.”  Marjorie’s mother lives down the hall obsessing constantly about her digestive tract; her beloved therapist has just died; and she loses it in a Disney store.  Unexpectedly invading her depression is her flamboyant childhood friend Lee who becomes entrenched in the Taub household as a seemingly permanent guest, not only drawing Marjorie out of her dark mood, but affecting her marriage as well.

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife will run from November 4th through November 20th.  Performances are: Wednesday – Saturday at 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. The Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park is located at 300 South Military Trail in Boca Raton, just south of Palmetto Park Road. Tickets for The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife are $18 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at the Willow Theatre Box office: 561-347-3948.

ARTS GARAGE/Creative City Collaborative Announces an Eclectic and Exciting 2011 – 2012 Fall Season

Creative City Collaborative premieres its first season of jazz entertainment, performing arts, and art exhibitions at the Arts Garage, Delray’s unique multi-disciplinary arts facility.

DELRAY BEACH, Florida/September 23, 2011:
Arts Garage, the wildly successful brainchild of the Creative City Collaborative (The Collaborative), has become the venue of choice for a diverse array of local, national, and international performers as well as a preferred destination for South Florida arts seekers and aficionados.  Opened in April 2011, Arts Garage is a 5,500 square-foot facility designed specifically for multi-disciplinary art performances and exhibitions.

Arts Garage is managed and programmed by The Collaborative, whose mission is to engage emerging artists and cultural innovators; to facilitate an exchange of art and ideas; and to present cutting-edge, interdisciplinary performances and exhibitions. Its goal is to transform Delray Beach into a boutique metropolitan city through arts and culture, and to become a premiere venue for artists and patrons alike. Centrally located in the heart of beautiful Delray Beach, the Arts Garage’ casually intimate ambiance perfectly reflects the downtown feel of the City.  Patrons particularly enjoy the B.Y.O.W. (Bring Your Own Whatever!) policy, whereby they are encouraged to bring their own beverages and snacks to enjoy during performances.

The Collaborative is pleased to announce it will launch its first full performing arts season in October. The season will be divided into three segments:  Fall-Winter: October – January; Winter-Spring: February – May; and Summer: June – September.

The Fall-Winter season will begin with live.arts. This – the Collaborative’s signature production – will encompass an array of artistic disciplines including spoken word, movement, music, and live visual arts creation.  The Collaborative’s core team of distinguished artists will use the theme of Creation to explore their various art forms. Patrons will be invited to Meet and Greet the Artists and key Arts Garage staff members during a wine and cheese reception following the performances.  “live.arts. embodies our vision of bringing all art forms together not only under one roof, but onto one stage,” says Alyona Ushe, The Collaborative’s Executive Director.  “This evening is very special to us, since it will introduce the audience to the Arts Garage’ creative and administrative team.”

The Fall-Winter season will also expand the Collaborative’s sold-out Jazz Project series to include icons as well as legend-in-the making jazz vocalists, violinists, saxophonists and concert pianists. Some of last year’s favorite performers will return, including JESSE JONES, JR., four time Grammy Award winner FEDERICO BRITOS, and two time Latin Grammy Award winner ED CALLE.  Legendary jazz vocalist NICOLE HENRY will kick off The Jazz Project season, and an array of new jazz luminaries will follow: TROY ANDERSON AND THE WONDERFUL WORLD BAND, PAULETTE DOZIER, ERIC ALLISON QUARTET and WENDY PEDERSEN.  Season subscriptions are available and include a complementary ticket(s) to any other performance at Arts Garage (pending availability).

Other exciting new Arts Garage series will include Classical Explosion, a chamber music series presented in collaboration with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra; Divas in Art, Delray’s newest cabaret featuring entertainment by female illusionists; and The Jace Vek Experience, starring Emmy award winning composer and concert pianist Jace Vek. Combining the piano with the latest cutting edge digital musical technology, Jace will perform his own compositions accompanied by a captivatingly eclectic assortment of sounds – from symphonic to electronic fusion.  “Jace brings an exciting new dimension to Arts Garage programming,” says Ushe.  “Delray is a magnet for creative forces, and Arts Garage is a perfect stage for exploration and creativity.  Jace personifies both concepts with a vengeance!”

Urban Underground is the newest signature series at Arts Garage.  Scheduled to begin in November, Urban Underground concerts will offer an exciting blend of R & B, Reggae, Jazz, and Hip-Hop, and will showcase some of the area’s finest local and regional musicians performing with Arts Garage’ own house band.  The December 3rd concert will feature Palm Beach County musician Eric Biddines, who has been compared to Outkast and Cee-lo. Biddines has released a successful mixtape, “Da Coffee Shop” and recently the EP “A Story About Love.” Featured on regional radio and in some of the hottest nightspots, ‘Eric B’ is one of the future leaders of Hip-Hop!

Other new partnerships are also in the works:  On October 9th, The Collaborative and the Alliance Française will feature Guillaume Vincent, winner of France’s prestigious Long-Thibaud competition.   On November 4th, Puppet Rampage – The Slam! will be presented in collaboration with Puppet Network & World and Eye Arts Center. (Be aware – “this ain’t no kiddie show!”)  And on December 3rd, The Collaborative will partner with the Palm Beach Opera to present A Taste of Opera featuring opera’s most beloved arias, duets and ensembles, including excerpts from Palm Beach Opera’s current season, musical theater favorites and standard American songs.

All performances take place at Arts Garage, 180 N.E. First Street (lower level of the Old School Square Parking Garage).

The events at Arts Garage typically sell out and patrons are encouraged to buy their tickets online in advance to guarantee a seat.
