LAUDERHILL, FL: “Some Enchanted Evening”, “Cock-Eyed Optimist”, “Bali Ha’i”, “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair” – Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific added some of the most beloved standards not only to Broadway history, but to the American Songbook.   South Pacific will be the Broadway at LPAC series final production of the 2025 season, and will run at the Lauderhill Lauderhill Performing Arts Centerfrom April 10th through April 27th.

Based upon James A. Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Tales of the South Pacific, the musical centers on Ensign Nellie Forbush, an American nurse stationed on a south Pacific Island during World War II, who falls in love with Emile de Becque a middle-aged expatriate French plantation owner, but struggles to accept his mixed-race children.  A secondary romance between US Marine lieutenant Joseph Cable and Liat, a young Tonkinese woman, explores his fears of the social consequences should he marry his Asian love.  “You’ve Got to be Carefully Taught”, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s moving musical exploration of racial prejudice is as applicable today as when it was introduced in 1949.  

“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific – the story itself is beautiful,” says the production’s director Michael Ursua. “Then there is this panorama of the south Pacific pitted against the narrow-mindedness of bigotry and the horror of the war that was taking place at that time. We see an awakening for some of the characters when they do their own introspection and the whole idea that people are searching for something or running away from something, or better yet, running to something, is fascinating. And the show’s message on racial tolerance is as relevant as anything written before or since.”

Director Ursua will also serve as the show’s Musical Director.   He has cast Christopher Sanders as Emile de Becque, Casey Sacco as Ensign Nellie Forbush, Marisol Morales-Dow as Bloody Mary, Lovell Rose as Luther Billis, Collin Salvatore as Lt. Joseph Cable, Thaylin Maria as Liat, Bill Brewer as Lt. George Brackett, Dan Carter as Cmdr. William Harbison, Eytan Deray as Stewpot, and Eli Flynn as Professor.

South Pacific will also feature Jorge Amador, Emily Rose Cardenas, Jennifer Fraser, Tanner Fults, Santiago Garza, Dru Loman, Emily Morgan, Eric O’Keefe, Brittni Taylore Rhodes, Allyson Rosenblum, Izaiah Scott, Larry Toyter, Corey Vega, Rachel Whittington, Lauren Wickerson, and Rachel Wresh.

South Pacific will be choreographed by Alex Jorth. The production’s Lighting Designer is Clifford Spullock, Sound Design is by Christopher Wynters, the Costume Supervisor is Penny Williams, Justin Lore will provide the production’s wigs, and Joseph Long will serve as the Production Stage Manager.  South Pacific is produced by Kevin Barrett and ACM Theatricals.

LAUDERHILL, FL: The Broadway at LPAC series second production of the 2025 season is Legally Blonde The Musical.  The show will run from February 27th through March 16th at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center.

Legally Blonde The Musical is based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the popular 2001 film of the same name.  The musical – with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach – received multiple award nominations following its debut in 2007.

Elle Woods appears to have it all. But her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

The production will be helmed by award-winning director Michael Ursua, who will also serve as the show’s musical director.   Ursua has cast Ariela Pizza as Elle Woods, Wayne LeGette as Professor Callahan, Michael Stafford as Emmett Forrest, Samara Shavrick as Paulette, Allyson Rosenblum as Brooke Wyndham, Colin Salvatore as Warner Huntington III, and Katie Davis as Vivienne Kensington.  

“The powerful messages of Legally Blonde resonate today more than ever,” Ursua says.  “The story follows Elle’s transformation as she tackles sexism, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Among lessons she learns along the way: Believe in yourself and don’t compromise; the things we get judged for as not serious are actually our greatest superpowers; although being independent can be scary, it can get you very far; and of course, never judge a book by its cover!”

Legally Blonde will also feature Nia Bourne, Jessie Dez, Madeline Finkelman, Eli Flynn, Jennifer Frasier, Santiago Garza, Dana Gough, Genevieve Hall, Yasmine Harrell, Cassidy Joseph, Amanda Lopez, John Luis Mazuelos, Mikhael Mendoza, Sorangel Munoz, Chad Raven, Cameron Scott, Izaiah Scott, Larry Toyter, Corey Vega, and Lauren Wickerson.

LAUDERHILL, FL: Broadway at LPAC’s 2025 season will open with 9 to 5 The Musical. Based on the seminal 1980 hit movie, the show, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is a story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era.  The production will open on January 16th and run through February 2nd at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. 

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In an uproarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! And while he remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

The production, directed by Michael Ursua,will star Dalia Aleman asViolet Newstead, Caiti Marlowe as Judy Bernly, and Anna Cappelli as Doralee Rhodes .Other cast members include Clay Cartland* as Franklin Hart Jr., Britte Steele as Roz Keith, and Michael Stafford as Joe.

“In today’s fast-paced environment where conversations around workplace dynamics, gender equity, and the importance of mental health are more prominent than ever, 9 to 5 The Musical invites us to laugh, reflect and unite,” Ursua says. “The camaraderie among the three lead characters – Violet, Judy and Doralee – serves as a reminder that collective action can lead to profound change. 9 to 5 The Musical is not only a tribute to the film that so many people know and love, but also a timely reminder of the power of standing up for what’s right.”

Ursua will also serve as the production’s Music Director and Alex Jorth is the show’s Choreographer.  Lighting is by William Gibbons-Brown and Sound is by Christopher Wynter.  Costumes are provided by Music Theatre Wichita and Costume World, supervised by Penny Williams/original design by William Ivey Long and Wigs are by Justin Lore of Tease & Floof Theatrical Wig Boutiques. Lisa Loweis the Production Stage Manager.

BOCA RATON, FL:  MNM Theatre Company will partner with North End Theater Company, the production division of Arts Center Management (ACM), a multi-platform theatre management company, to produce the Broadway at LPAC series at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center. ACM recently signed a long-term contract to produce the series for the City of Lauderhill.  The three-show 2022 season will feature the hit musicals Grease, Sister Act, and Guys and Dolls.

MNM Theatre Company is an award-winning not-for-profit 501(c)(3) theatre company whose mission is to produce high quality professional live theatre that inspires audiences and enriches the cultural life of the community while creating Florida based jobs in the Arts. 

Since the company’s debut production of A Chorus Line in 2014, Marcie Gorman, MNM’s Producing Artistic Director and CEO has been committed to providing job opportunities for Floridians, and as of January 2021 MNM Theatre Company has created over 800 theatrical employment opportunities both in front of and behind the curtain.

MNM has produced large scale musicals (including Spamalot, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Hair, La Cage Aux Folles, Little Shop of Horrors) as well as smaller, intimate productions (Side By Side By Sondheim, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, My Way, A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra), garnering critical and audience acclaim, numerous prestigious South Florida Carbonell Award nominations – and a win, and multiple Silver Palm Awards. Their recent innovative online production of Closer Than Ever received rave reviews from audiences and critics throughout the United States, and kudos from the show’s creators, Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire.

The Lauderhill Performing Arts Center has hosted numerous theatrical events and productions since it opened its doors in January 2016 and has grown its audiences to include theatre patrons from not only Broward County, but from Miami/Dade and Palm Beach counties as well.

“The City of Lauderhill is pleased to be working with our new partners, MNM Theatre Company and Arts Center Management, to present our upcoming Broadway series,” says Lauderhill City Manager Desorae Giles-Smith.  “After a year of being dark due to COVID-19, we are thrilled to bring light and life back to the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center!”

Arts Center Management is a multi-faceted theatre management, consulting, and production company whose main focus is to help theatres and theatre companies improve their programming and operations.  The company was founded by ACM President Kevin Barrett in 2014. Barrett began working with the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center in 2014 and was instrumental in bringing the successful Broadway in Lauderhill series to LPAC. 

“It’s an honor to work with Marcie Gorman and her award-winning MNM Theatre Company,” says Barrett. “During the last year, we have been working behind the scenes, formulating our plans, and there’s no one I would want leading this exciting new venture more than Marcie. She is one of the most respected regional theater producers in Florida.”

Grease will run from January 14th – January 30th, 2022; Sister Act from February 18th – March 6th; and Guys and Dolls from April 1st – April 17th.  Grease and Guys and Dolls will be directed by Jonathan Van Dyke, and Sister Act will be helmed by Michael Ursua.

LAUDERHILL, FL:  Stage Door Theatre’s third production in their new home is an exuberant journey down the yellow brick road! Based the L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, The Wiz is a dazzling mix of rock, gospel, and soul music, and told in the context of African American Culture.    The family friendly musical will open at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC) on December 7th and run through December 31st.

The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and Five Drama Desk Awards, The Wiz retells Baum’s tale of Dorothy, who is transported by a tornado to a world of Munchkins, witches, and magic.  On her way to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz, who she believes can help her get back to Kansas, she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion – friends who help her battle the Wicked Witch of the West – and eventually learn that there really is ‘no place like home’.

The Wiz will be directed and choreographed by Lloyd Culbreath who brings years of theatrical experience to the production.  He has performed on Broadway, and on tour for over 25 years as a dancer, singer, actor, teacher, dance captain, stage manager, and assistant and associate choreographer.

“Working on The Wiz is such a joy!” says Culbreath. “Soulful, sassy, and brimming with joy! The show is such a wonderful combination of amazing memorable songs, spectacular dancing and armfuls of heart and love. It offers something for everyone. I’m thrilled to spend this time in the land of Oz!”

Cast in The Wiz are Nayomi Braaf as Dorothy, Kedrick D. Faulk as Scarecrow, Ben Bagby as Tin Man, Darius J. Manuel as Lion, Kyaunnee Richardson as Aunt Em/Glinda, Arlene Coutee as Addaperle, and Jamari Johnson Williams as The Wiz. 2017 Carbonell Award-winner (Best Actress, Musical) Sarah Gracel will play Evelline. Also in the cast are Michael Baugh, Kolten Bell, Alexander Domingue, Cameron Jackson, Kimberly Mhoon, Johanna Moise, Alicia Nicole, Mickey Nixon, Amy Romero, Andre Russell, Johanna Taylor, and Shanna Woods.

David Nagy will serve as the production’s Musical Director and keyboard 1; he will be accompanied by Karen Nagy on keyboard 2,  Andrea Gilbert on woodwind, Sandy Poltarack on bass and Guitar, Brian Sayre on drums, and Rupert Ziawinski on Bass.  Marissa Calabrese is The Wiz’ Associate Director. Scenic Design is by Randall Parsons, Lighting Design is by Kirk Bookman, and Sound Design is by Rushnay Henry.  The production’s Stage Manager is Nancy Clay.

The Wiz will run from December 7 – December 31 at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC). The theatre is located at 3800 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill (33311), in the Central Broward Regional Park on the North East corner of Sunrise Boulevard and 441 (State Road 7).

Tickets for The Wiz range from $48 to $58. (LPAC charges a $5 service fee per ticket, however if a package of four Stage Door shows is purchased the service fees will be waived.) LAUDERHILL, FL:  Stage Door Theatre’s move to the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC) has proved to be the right one, according to the company’s Executive Producer, Derelle Bunn.  “Our patrons’ responses have been totally positive,” she says.  “They love the venue, the ambiance, and the conveniences LPAC offers them.  They’ve all promised they’ll be back, and that they’ll be bringing their friends!”

Stage Door’s second production in their new state-of-the-art home should definitely entice their audiences –returning and new:  Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is an award-winning musical comedy based on the hit movie of the same name.  It will open at on October 12th and run through November 4th. 

Lawrence Jameson makes his lavish living by talking rich ladies out of their money.  Freddy Benson more humbly swindles women by waking their compassion with fabricated stories about his grandmother’s failing health.  After meeting on a train, they attempt to work together, only to find that their small town isn’t big enough for both of them. They agree on a settlement – the first one to extract $50,000 from their mutual target, young heiress Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town.

Sophisticated, suave, and with a good dash of mischief, this thoroughly entertaining musical features a delightfully jazzy score and was nominated for eleven Tony Awards.  The music is by David Yazbek (The Full Monty, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and this year’s Tony Award winner for Best musical, The Band’s Visit).  The show’s book is by Jeffrey Lane (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).

The production will be directed by Clayton Phillips: “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a perfect example of an escapist piece of musical theatre,” he explains.  “It does not take itself too seriously, and it has a wonderfully jazzy score.  I guess if there is a message in it at all, it is that greed does not pay (or does it?). The show is full of twists and turns and is a real comedy from start to finish.  I love this musical because it is smart and funny and entertaining,” he says.  “And what more could we want these days?!”

Cast in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels are Michael Cartwright as Lawrence Jameson, Matthew Kurzyniec as Freddy Benson, and Sabrina Lynn Gore as Christine Colgate. Also in the cast are Aaron Bower, Austin Carrol, Marty Craft, Alexandra Nicole Garcia, Sebastian Goldberg, Chris Hendricks, Michael Kruetz, Cat Pagano, Vincent Pelligrino, Sarah Rose, Laura Titus, and Alexandra Van Hasselt.
