Shrek The Musical

March 29, 2016
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL: “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” Thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue.

KWP Productions will present Shrek The Musical, the award-winning fairy tale adventure based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film from April 15th through April 24th at the William T. Dwyer High School Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens.

With new songs by Jeanine Tesosri (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change, and the 2015 Tony Award-winner Fun Home) and a book by David Lindsay-Abaire, whose previous works include High Fidelity, Good People, and Rabbit Hole, which won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Shrek The Musical debuted on Broadway in December of 2008 and went on to win Tony and Drama Desk awards.

Along with the show’s beloved green hero, the musical features a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits.  Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek The Musical empowering message is that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

Director Kimberly Rommel-Enright’s cast includes Michael Cartwright as Shrek, Whitney Grace Smith as Fiona, Sean Gogan as Donkey, and Angelo Ferraro as Farquaad.

“Shrek was near the top of my list of roles that I really wanted to play, so I was very excited when I found out that KWP was going to be putting on this production,” says Cartwright. “The music in the show is incredible and it’s a story familiar to almost everyone (there may be 10 people in the nation who have never seen one of the Shrek movies!), as it follows the plot of the first movie pretty closely. Shrek is such an iconic character in modern pop culture, so there is a certain pressure to get it right, but I’m ecstatic to be taking on the challenge. My experience with KWP was phenomenal with the production of The Addams Family, so I couldn’t wait to work with them again.”

“To me Shrek The Musical is about discovering that you can love fully and be loved fully by being your true self,” says the show’s Fiona, Whitney Grace Smith. “One of my favorite life quotes is “you are enough, you are so enough, it’s unbelievable how enough you are.” As Fiona, there are so many times when I have to hide my ogre side until eventually I just burst out! Literally! When I finally decide to be who I really am, my life is changed!

“Learning this role has been one of the most enthralling experiences of my life,” she continues. “Working with Kim, Lindsay White (choreographer), and Dominic Raffa (music director) has been such a joy and an incredible learning experience. Traveling into another world with Mike (Shrek), Sean (Donkey), and Angelo (Farquaad) has been filled with so much laughter, growth, and encouragement that I’ve seen my character come to life in an extraordinary way. Between the dancing rats, quick-witted humor, and moving songs, this show is definitely a hit and I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

Shrek The Musical will run from April 15 – April 24, 2016 at William T. Dwyer High School Theatre.  Tickets for Shrek range from $27 – $15.  Tickets may be purchased at the on line at http://kwpproductions.com or by phone at 561-339-4687.

Mary Poppins
January 8th – January 17th, 2016

“Just as I thought: Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way.”
~ Mary Poppins

December 21, 2015
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL: KWP Productions has some ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ entertainment in store for audiences of all ages when their production of Mary Poppins opens at the William T. Dwyer High School Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens on January 8th. The show will run through January 17th.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the beloved Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stage craft.

KWP Productions’ Kimberly Rommel-Enright will direct the production, which will feature Victoria Devereaux as Mary, and Sean Gogan as Bert.

“Perhaps one of the most iconic and memorable movies of my childhood was Mary Poppins,” says Rommel-Enright. “I have always loved all things Disney, so as adult I am thrilled to be able to produce and direct Disney shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan and now Mary Poppins. It allows me an opportunity to relive my childhood and to share that with an audience.

The bar is set pretty high when you choose to bring stories, characters, and songs that audiences know and love to life – and this updated version definitely retains the magic – and the music – of the original.

“I am blessed with a very talented cast with whom I have entrusted these well known characters,” she continues.  “And this show is also an opportunity for many of our younger actors to be in a mainstage production and to work alongside professional actors learning and growing in their craft. Some of my favorite moments during rehearsal are when I can sit back and listen to songs being rehearsed or watch a dance being taught and practiced. I am often found grinning ear to ear and tapping my feet.  The music is infectious as is the energy and enthusiasm of the cast. That is one of the things that makes this company so special – the love and joy we have for each other and for the work, and that we get to share that with an audience.”

“The music is vibrant and uplifting,” Lindsay White, the show’s choreographer says. “It has inspiring lively dance numbers including “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and our big tap number, “Step in Time”. Choreographing Mary Poppins has reminded me to open my eyes to the magical things that happen all around me every day.”

Victoria Devereaux

“It is an absolutely amazing experience transforming into the iconic role of Mary Poppins,” says Victoria Devereaux. “I have been performing with KWP through many shows; I’ve played Ariel in The Little Mermaid and most recently Morticia in The Addams Family, but this is one of my favorite roles. I am delighted to be a part of this lovely and amazingly talented cast and I’m ecstatic to share this show with everyone.”

Sean Gogan

Sean Gogan

Sean Gogan, who plays Bert agrees. “It is very challenging to take on such a well known role as Bert in the musical Mary Poppins,” he explains. “But I am very excited about the opportunity to make the character my own in our KWP Production version of this classic tale, while staying true to the story everyone knows and loves. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn new and challenging things through my work with KWP from learning silks in Tarzan to tap dancing for Mary Poppins. This show in particular is full of energy, fun, and lessons like “anything can happen if you let it!” I can’t wait to share our practically perfect nanny with the South Florida Community!”

Mary Poppins will run fromJanuary 8 – January 17, 2016 at William T. Dwyer High School Theatre. Tickets for Mary Poppins range from $27 – $15. Tickets may be purchased at the on line at http://kwpproductions.com or by phone at 561-339-4687.
