BOCA RATON, FL:  Entr’Acte Theatrix, whose previous productions such as Into the Woods, Avenue Q, Spamalot, and The Rocky Horror Show have proven to be consistently popular with young and older audiences alike, will present Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein – The Mel Brooks Musical from October 21st through October 30th at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park. This will be the company’s first production at the popular Boca Raton venue.

A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend, Mel Brooks’ comedy masterpiece follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen!) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster — but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

“We have not produced a show since 2019 because of the pandemic, and I was not prepared to do so until the audience was ready to return,” says Entr’Acte Theatrix producer and founder Vicki Halmos. “Fortunately, I have seen strong evidence of that in the last few months. We will be in a new venue The Willow Theatre, in Boca Raton, which is very exciting. We are fortunate to have Jeremy Quinn as our director, who has expertise in the Mel Brooks comedic style and he will be joined by our long-standing music director, Roger Blankenship. In addition, we will be adding Andy Morejon, from our Entr’Acte ranks, to choreograph.

“Entr’Acte Theatrix has a tradition of promoting young artists to director positions who have honed their skills working in Entr’Acte productions specifically,” Halmos explains. “At Entr’Acte, our practice is to engage local emerging talent, and give them continuing support and opportunities to polish and enhance their skills. Several of our Young Frankenstein cast members were part of the Halmos’ Palm Beach Principal Players group several years ago, and are now back with freshly minted theatre degrees, and looking for the on-stage experience Entr’acte provides.  Our young cast is enthusiastically gearing up to be a part of what promises to be one of the outstanding productions of the coming season!  We hope our South Florida audience will continue to support local theater in developing a world class body of actors, and creative teams,” she concludes.

“I’m delighted to be returning to Entr’Acte for my fourth show, directing Young Frankenstein,” says director Jeremy Quinn. “This is my first opportunity to direct a large-scale musical (in-person) after the pandemic, so I’m incredibly grateful to Vicki Halmos and Entr’Acte for inviting me back to the table. I’ve been wanting to sink my teeth into something like this for quite some time, needless to say.

Jeremy Quinn

“Comedy has always been a strong suit in my 40+ year career in theatre, so the opportunity to tackle one of the greatest comedic properties of all time is nothing short of thrilling!” he continues. “After directing the national tour of Old Jews Telling Jokes (before the pandemic), I realize how much more I’ve added to my comedic canon from working with several masters of comedy in that production…and what a fitting segue to this project! Obviously, I’m a long-time fan of Mel Brooks and his unapologetic comedic style, so all the good stuff audiences remember from his movies will be on display here; including all the funny bits, nuances and innuendos.

“I can’t wait to share my joy of comedy with the Young Frankenstein cast and strengthen their knowledge/experience of what comprises good comedic timing. It’s actually somewhat mathematical and scientific when you break it down. Like I always say (even when directing a drama)…Find The Funny! It’s always there, you just have to look for it… and right now, audiences are desperately needing it.”

Young Frankenstein’s cast includes Kevin Cruz as Frederick Frankenstein, Chase Stante as the Monster, Greg Halmos as Igor, Nicole Roach as Inga, Ashley Gravlin as Frau Blucher, Kalli Courakos as Elizabeth, and Carlo Sabusap as the Constable and the Hermit.  Also cast are Chris Calhoun, Christian Cooper, Briana Earhart, Tyler Fitch, Victoria Hocton, Nysia Matos, Andy Morejon, TJ Pursley, Sarah Rayburn, and Hannah Rosenberg.

Entr’acte Theatrix is a not-for-profit, semi-professional, showcase company providing opportunities for emerging theatre artists, both on-stage and backstage. The company puts students of college or post-graduate programs on a professional trajectory with a goal of working in the profession a chance to gain experience in their area of training or interest.  Entr’acte, as the name suggests, is the “next step,” from classroom to career, and provides the young theatre artist with one of his or her all-important first professional resume-building credits.

January 8, 2019:

LAUDERHILL, FL:    Mel Brooks’ musical comedy The Producers won a record-setting 12 Tonys in 2001, including Best Musical – the most in the awards’ history.  It also set the standard for outrageous, in-your-face, politically incorrect humor. Stage Door Theatre will present what Variety’s Charles Isherwood called ‘a rip-roaring, gut-busting, rib-tickling, knee-slapping, aisle-rolling … good time’ musical at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC). The show will open on January 18th and run through February 10th.

The plot is simple: Failed producer Max Bialystock and his reluctant accountant, Leo Bloom, cook up a plot to convince a group of elderly women to invest two million dollars in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical, which they know will be a sure-fire flop. This, they conclude, will leave them with the money, which they plan to use to retire to Rio.  But against all odds show is a hit, and Bialystock and Bloom have to deal with their success.

“The Producers takes an absurd and politically incorrect look at a horrible time in history. It also takes a hysterical look at the “art of the deal” in theatre itself,” the show’s director, Clayton Phillips says.  “These days I feel we just have to laugh, or we just might go crazy.  The Producers will make you laugh, for sure.  Laugh at the absurdities of life.”

“This is a bucket list role for me,” says South Florida’s Ken Clement, who will play Max Bialystock in the production. “When Clayton offered me the role, I didn’t hesitate for even one moment… I said ‘yes’ without a second thought!”

Phillips has also cast T.J. Lamando as Leo Bloom, Melissa Jones as Ulla, Larry Buzzeo as Roger de Bris, and Frank Vomero as Garmen Ghia. Other cast members include Michael Biggs, Allison Blanchard, Marty Craft, Versee Damien, Alexandra Nicole Garcia, Luis Gomez, Stephen Hohendorf, Caiti Marlow, Christopher Morucci, Cat Pagano, Vincent Pelligrino, Jacob Rice, Sarah Ros, Laura Titus, Dyllan Vallier, Alexandra Van Hasselt, and Shanna Woods.

David Nagy will serve as the production’s Musical Director and Danny Durr is The Producers’ Choreographer. Scenic Design is by Randall Parsons, Lighting Design is by Guy Haubrich, and Costume Design is by Lenora Nikitin.  The production’s Stage Manager is Nancy Clay.

The Producers will run from January 18 – February 10 at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC). The theatre is located at 3800 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill (33311), in the Central Broward Regional Park on the North East corner of Sunrise Boulevard and 441 (State Road 7).

Tickets for The Producers range from $48 to $58. (LPAC charges a $5 service fee per ticket, however if a package of four Stage Door shows is purchased the service fees will be waived.) Group rates are available, as are student prices (with valid ID). Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 954-344-7765 or 954-777-2055 (LPAC) or on line at www.stagedoorfl.org or on the LPAC website at https://lpacfl.com.

BOCA RATON, FL:  Lightning Bolt Productions’ Young Frankenstein – The Mel Brooks Musical will open at the West Boca Performing Arts Center at West Boca High School* on April 13th, and run through April 22nd.

Young Frankenstein was Mel Brooks’ follow-up to his hit musical The Producers, and audience reaction to the production was consistently positive, much to his delight: “I love what they do,” Brooks said in an interview shortly after the show opened. “The audience knows Young Frankenstein the movie; they didn’t know The Producers. They all neigh when anyone on stage says “Frau Blucher”. And they can’t wait for the Blind Hermit to spill the hot soup on the monster’s lap. It’s great to see the audience play ping-pong with the actors.”

Jessie Hoffman

Lightning Bolt founder, and the show’s director Jessie Hoffman has drawn upon a special piece of the film’s history to inspire and inform her directorial choices: “I think it’s safe to say that everyone has a special place in their heart for Gene Wilder,” she explains. “Throughout the filming process of Young Frankenstein he and Mel Brooks only had one disagreement, which would probably shock most fans of the movie. Mel Brooks strongly disliked Wilder’s idea to include a scene where Fredrick Frankenstein performed “Puttin’ On The Ritz” with the monster. Of course, once the scene was done, Brooks admitted that he’d been wrong and stated that it was the best thing in the movie.

“As a director, it’s my job to find the difficult balance of staying true to what the piece is meant to be, while making it my own,” she continues. “Because of this, Young Frankenstein might very well be the most difficult show I’ve ever directed, but also, the most rewarding. If I can learn anything from this production, it’s to trust my instincts, my ideas, and myself no matter what others say. To trust my humor and my creativity, because if Gene hadn’t trusted his, one of the most beloved, hilarious, and iconic moments of this film wouldn’t exist. It’s truly amazing how something that can bring such laughter, joy, and amusement to so many people can also teach such an important life lesson, and I’m truly grateful to Gene Wilder for helping me learn that.”

Nicole Stav

Lightning Bolt has enlisted Nicole Stav to help shepherd the fledgling theatre company’s show onto the stage – she will serve as the production’s Stage Manager, and has designed many aspects of the show including the Set, Lighting, Costume, and Props: “I’m truly excited to be able to blend my passion for theatre with my skills in business management,” she says. “It’s not very often that we get to do what we love, but when you do, it never really feels like work. Spearheading this new production company has been rewarding in so many ways, and the relationships we’re forming within the South Florida Theatre Industry are invaluable, to say the very least. Managing such a large cast while simultaneously taking care of props, costumes, lighting design, and set design has been challenging; however, I feel that the hard work we’ve put in will be so obvious once everyone sees the show!”

Young Frankenstein cast members include Max Miller (Frederick Frankenstein), Jonathan Cabrera (Igor), Jessie Hoffman (Inga), Josh Nelson (The Creature), Eileen Flanagan Parente (Frau Blucher), Taryn Bagdasarian (Elizabeth), Larry Bresslerr (Inspector Kemp), and Murphy Hayes (The Hermit, etc.).  Also cast are Michael Reizburg, Ravelle Miller, Victoria Kuhns, Angela Moormann-Davis, Valerie Bressler, Aaron Bravo, and Christian Matthiesen.

The show’s Musical Director is Angela Moormann-Davis; Choreography is by Taryn Bagdasarian.

Tickets for Young Frankenstein – The Mel Brooks Musical are on sale now and can be purchased on line at www.lbptheatre.com or by phone at 561-886-8286.  Tickets are $35.  Group rates (6 or more tickets purchased in one transaction) are $28, and student tickets ($20 with valid ID) are also available.

MIAMI, FL:  Jake Ehrenreich will open in A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center on February 2nd. But prior to that opening, he’ll visit the Miami Jewish Film festival as a special guest speaker to discuss his participation in the recent film, The Last Laugh, cinematographer Ferne Pearlstein’s fascinating look at the importance of laughter under even the most dire of circumstances.  In the film, Ehrenreich joins an ‘A’ list roster of comedians and actors, as well as several Holocaust survivors as they debate the fine line between appropriate and inappropriate humor, and whether the Holocaust and the Nazis should indeed be permissible subject for laughter.

Jake Ehrenreich

Jake Ehrenreich

Ehrenreich’s participation is a natural fit.  His show A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, and the newly revised and revamped version A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 reflect his own deeply personal feelings and experiences as the child of Holocaust survivors.  In fact, after the enormous success of the original show, and after countless interviews and related projects including films, books and personal appearances, Jake is now globally recognized as an academic expert on the Catskills, Comedy, and The Holocaust. On November 15th, 2016 he was awarded the civilian Certificate of Special Recognition from the United States Congress “in recognition of outstanding and invaluable service to the community.”

Ehrenreich will be joined on stage at the film’s screenings by Ferne Pearlstein and the movie’s producer Robert Edwards to introduce the film, and to participate in question and answer sessions after each showing.

The Last Laugh premiered at this year’s prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, and has been screened at over 50 festivals world-wide, including the Jerusalem Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival, and the Vermont International Film Festival.  It has been called ‘compelling’ and ‘thought-provoking’, and Oliver Lyttelton of The Playlist said “…it ends up feeling like as definitive a film on comedy and the Holocaust as you could ever want.”  Some of the film’s other participants include Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Sarah Silverman, Gilbert Gottfried, Joan Rivers, and Judy Gold.

The Award-winning musical to run at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts/Crest Theatre

October 6, 2015

DELRAY BEACH, FL: Entr’acte Theatrix, whose recent productions of Into the Woods, Avenue Q, Spamalot, and The Rocky Horror Show have consistently filled the Crest Theatre, will present Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein from October 22nd through November 1st at the popular Delray Beach venue.

It's Alive 1A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend, Brooks’ comedy masterpiece follows bright young Dr.

“Young Frankenstein allows Entr’acte Theatrix an excellent opportunity to introduce this group of young actors to the genius of Mel Brooks,” explains the company’s founder and producer Vicki Halmos. “He’s one of our foremost American comedy writers. We introduced the company to the British comedy of Monty Python with our production of Spamalot a couple of years ago, and Brooks’ work is a natural follow-up to that. We drilled them in workshops to land the comedy and study the contrasts.”

Several Young Frankenstein cast members were part of Halmos’ Palm Beach Principal Players group several years ago, and are now back with freshly minted theatre degrees, and looking for the on-stage experience Entr’acte provides.

Kevin Black

Kevin Black

Kevin Black, who has helmed a number of Entr’acte’s productions, will direct the show, and Roger Blankenship has taken on the task of musical direction.

“I’m really impressed with this cast’s preparedness”, says Black. He met them after they’d completed their comedy improv workshops, which were run by Seth Trucks, a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. “I found them to be delightfully bonded – with the material, and with each other.”

Roger Blankenship - Musical Director

Roger Blankenship – Musical Director

“I had been a fan of the movie, but did not know it was made into a musical,” says Blankenship.  “It was a shock to learn that Mel Brooks also wrote the music!  And it is good!! AND we have the singers to bring it to life on stage!!!”.

Cast members include Robyn Eli Brenner (Frederick Frankenstein), Victoria Lauzun (Inga), Christopher Lam (The Creature), Greg Halmos (Igor), Carlo Sabusap (Inspector Kemp), Cindy Thagard (Frau Blucher), Melissa Whitworth (Elizabeth), and Ross Parris (Dr. Victor Frankenstein). Also cast are Lara Williams, Phillip Andrew, Maryann Whims, Mary Grace Tesoriero, Nick Williams, Jonathan Nieto, Katie Frederickson, and Alexander Schettino.

Entr’acte Theatrix is a not-for-profit, semi-professional, showcase company providing opportunities for emerging theatre artists, both on-stage and backstage. The fourteen year old company gives students of college or post-graduate programs on a professional trajectory with a goal of working in the profession a chance to gain experience in their area of training or interest. Entr’acte, as the name suggests, is the “next step,” from classroom to career, and provides the young theatre artist with one of his or her all-important first professional resume-building credits.

Young Frankenstein will run from October 22nd to November 1st at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts’ Crest Theatre, 51 N. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33444. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased on line at: www.entractetheatrix.org or www.delraycenterforthearts.org, or by phone at 561-243-7922, Ext. 1. Tickets are $30; student rates ($20) and group rates ($22) are also available.

PALM BEACH/DELRAY BEACH, FL:  Auditions will be held for the South Florida premiere of Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks’ popular musical adaptation of his own classic movie at the Palm Beach Day Academy on August 11 from 7- 9:30 pm and August 13 from 7-9:30 pm. Entr’Acte Theatrix, whose recent productions of Into the Woods, Avenue Q, Spamalot, and The Rocky Horror Show have consistently filled the Crest Theatre, will produce the musical from October 22nd through November 1st at the popular Delray Beach venue.

A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend, Brooks’ comedy masterpiece follows bright young Dr.
