BOCA RATON, FL: Those irreverent princesses who amused and delighted audiences at the Kravis Center last May will toss their tiaras onto a stage in Boca Raton early next year.   Disenchanted, the fun-loving, subversive, and definitely not-for-the kiddies’ musical revue that proves happily-ever-after can be a ‘royal pain in the ass’, will be presented once again by Marcie Gorman and MNM Theatre Company. The show will run at The Studio at Mizner Park from January 12th through January 21st.

“We all had so much fun with this show,” Gorman said recently.  “Our cast, our crew, and of course our audiences left the theatre every night laughing and applauding!  When the opportunity arose to bring the princesses back – this time to Boca – how could we say no!?

“Disenchanted is very funny, extremely clever, and yes – a little bit raunchy,” she continues, “But these princesses have a lot to say about… well just about everything. And as we all know there can be a lot of truth in comedy – and in satire.”

“It is such a pleasure to bring Disenchanted back to the stage and to Boca Raton,” says the show’s director, Jonathan Van Dyke. “This timeless tale is certain to bring audiences lots of laughs and an unexpected level of poignancy. And this knockout cast and team of musicians will definitely bring a new vision to what happens after happily ever after!”

MNM’s mission has always been to hire South Florida talent, and Van Dyke has once again assembled a stellar cast of local princesses: Reprising their May roles are Kat Gold as Mulan and Rapunzel, Leah Sessa as the Little Mermaid and Belle, and Vallery Valentine as the Princess Who Kissed the Frog. Stephanny Noria will step into Pocahontas’ and Badroulbadour’s shoes, Shelley Keelor and Kathryn Nash will share Snow White duties, Ashley Rubin and Jordan Gonzalez will rotate as Cinderella, and Sabrina Lynn Gore will play Sleeping Beauty.

MNM is also one of the very few companies in South Florida that continues to use live musicians:  MAC and Bistro Award-winner Bobby Peaco will rotate with Ryan Crout as Disenchanted’s Musical Directors and pianists and will lead the production’s musical team of Julie Jacobs on Drums and Robert Ziawinski on Bass.

Tickets for Disenchanted are on sale now and can be purchased online at mnmtheatre.org, or by calling 561-203-3742. Tickets range in price from $55 to $65.  Group rates are also available.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL:  A deviously delicious Broadway horror comedy rock sci-fi musical, Little Shop of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre-goers for over 40 years. In fact, it is currently enjoying an extremely successful run Off Broadway.   Entr’Acte Theatrix will present this beloved cult classic, created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin), from November 9th through November 19th at the William G. Skaff Center in West Palm Beach.

“Over 20 years ago, we produced this show,” says Entr’Acte Theatrix Founder and Producer Vicki Halmos.  “I was researching by phone possibilities for the puppets used to portray Audrey II, when the morning news was interrupted by the events of 9/11, which I watched live TV. I decided to proceed with that production, to keep some level of normalcy going in my life and that of the cast and crew. As our production proceeded, I saw many parallels between the events of 9/11 and the message of Little Shop. Now, 20 years later, with this new production, we have another evidence of an evil force with the intention of ‘coming to eat the world whole”, with the events of Israel’s current challenge with the horrendous forces of evil. But, beyond the ironic parallel between these productions of Little Shop, we are fiercely working towards an excellent production to present to our community and let them draw their own conclusions.  By the way, though, I highly doubt that the writers of Little Shop had this ironic analogy in mind when they wrote this entertaining piece of musical theater.”

Meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it…blood. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!

“I am very excited to be helming Little Shop of Horrors,” says the show’s Director, Carlo Sabusap.  “Little Shop is one of those great classic Broadway musicals that reaches out to all audiences in its comedy, its sincerity, and its music. Our production will have some unique elements that I am sure will give those who experience it something to talk about, while preserving the memorable moments masterfully created by writer Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken. I am so proud of the magic this cast and crew is creating, and I hope that the audience will feel the same magic that I see in them.”

Sabusap’s Little Shop of Horrors cast includes Ryan Townsend as Seymour Krelborn, Aletta Kemp as Audrey, Murphy Hayes as Mr. Mushnik, Chase Stante as Audrey II, Greg Halmos as Orin Scrivell, Pamela Hankerson as Ronette, Sarah Romeo as Crystal, Jamie Wade as Chiffon, Nik Rosa as Puppeteer/Swing, Sebastian Rukes and Nicole Hernandez as Ensemble/Swings, and Kai as Ensemble.

The production’s Music Director is Roger Blankenship, and the Assistant Music Director is Ed Kolcz.  The show’s Music Captain is Ryan Townsend, Kai is the show’s Choreographer, Costumes are by Ashley Carlisle, and Sets and Sound are provided by Theatre of Collaborative Arts.  The Production Stage Manager is Elizabeth Southwell.

BOCA RATON, FL:  Off-Glades Theater Company, a brand-new theatre company based in Boca Raton, Florida, will present 13 The Musical at Olympic Heights High School June 23rd and 24th only.

Founded by teacher/author/Broadway actor Jodie Langel, who serves as the company’s Executive Director, Off-Glades Theater Company was launched in 2022 to promote and produce musical theatre in South Florida for the cultural development of young people in the performing arts.

Jodie Langel

“What is striking about 13 is that it conveys emotions and insecurities that not only teenagers relate to – but that everyone does,” Langel says.  “At its core, it’s a show about the raw vulnerability that comes with being true to yourself – something that resonates with people of all ages.”

Evan Goldman has it all: He’s popular, has the “perfect” family and lives in the world’s greatest city – New York. But when his parents divorce, he’s forced to move with his Mom…to Indiana. Uprooted from his old life, he must maneuver his way through the minefield of high school to become part of the ‘in’ crowd.

Featuring a rock score by celebrated composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World), 13 will be performed by an astonishing cast of young local talent. 13 The Musical is a grown-up story about dealing with change and learning that becoming who you want to be starts with discovering who you are.

Langel’s talented cast includes Kane Quiles as Evan, Leah Steiner as Patrice, Sebastian Baroulette as Brett, Victoria Johnson as Lucy, Jonathan Jacknow as Archie, Eddie Albeio as Malcolm, Anthony Cirisano as Eddie, Aliyah Harrow as Kendra, Sofia Gianetti as Molly, Tommy Cook as Richie, Miranda Ferreira as Charlotte, Mia Spector as Cassie, and Mateo Lepore as Simon.  Also in the cast are Gabriella Roache, Mina Howard, Kylie Staub, Emma Nevico, Ella Valente, and Alisa Voloshina.

Michael Ursua is the production’s Musical Director; the Assistant Director is Nicole Roach, and Brittany Blouin will serve as the production’s Stage Manager.

May 2, 2023:

BOCA RATON:    Mel Brooks’ musical comedy The Producers won a record-setting 12 Tonys in 2001, including Best Musical – the most in the awards’ history.  It also set the standard for outrageous, in-your-face, politically incorrect humor. Entr’Acte Theatrix will present what Variety’s Charles Isherwood called “a rip-roaring, gut-busting, rib-tickling, knee-slapping, aisle-rolling … good time” musical at the Willow Theatre at Sugar Sand Park. The show will open on May 19th and run through June 4th.

The plot is simple: Failed producer Max Bialystock and his reluctant accountant, Leo Bloom, cook up a scheme to convince a group of elderly women to invest two million dollars in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical, which they know will be a sure-fire flop. This, they conclude, will leave them with the money, which they plan to use to retire to Rio.  But against all odds the show is a hit, and Bialystock and Bloom have to deal with their success.

“During these difficult times when once again we are seeing the rise of antisemitism, we debated very carefully about doing this show,” Entr’Acte Theatrix Executive Producer Vicki Halmos explains.  “But in the end we decided that as Mel Brooks – who himself was a constant recipient of prejudice during his time in the US army – so rightly said, “More than anything the Holocaust by the Nazis is probably the great outrage of the 20th century. There is nothing to compare with it. And … so what can I do about it? If I get on the soapbox and wax eloquently, it’ll be blown away in the wind, but if I do “Springtime for Hitler” it’ll never be forgotten. I think you can bring down totalitarian governments faster by using ridicule than you can with invective.”

“We at Entr’Acte hope that by taking this absurd and politically incorrect look at a horrendous time in history (not to mention the way Brooks lampoons the ‘art of the deal’ in the business of theatre) we can entertain and educate at the same time,” Halmos says.

Entr’Acte Theatrix will donate a portion of their ticket sales to the Holocaust Museum in Miami.

The Producers Director Jamie Mattocks has cast Carlo-Rufino Sabusap as Max Bialystock, Chris Embroz as Leo Bloom, Zoe Darragh Garnett as Ulla Inga Hansen Bensen, Greg Halmos as Franz Liebkind, Jonathan Costanzo as Roger Debris, and Michael ‘Mercury’ Moser as Garmen Ghia.  Other cast members include Nik Rosa, Nicolas Aquino, David McKibben, Matthew Schenk, Charles Ponthokkan, Chris Calhoun, Norita Bandel, Heidi Salonia, Martyna Reczka, Roxanne Lamendola Grant, JB Peters, and Elizabeth Robinson.

Along with her directing duties, Jamie Mattocks will serve as The Producers’ Choreographer.  Roger Blankenship is the show’s Musical Director. Nicole Stav-Roach is Assistant Director, and Brittany Blouin will serve as the Production Stage Manager.

The Producers will run from May 19th – June 4th at the Willow Theatre at Sugar Sand Park. The theatre is located at 300 S. Military Trail in Boca Raton (33486).

Tickets for The Producers are $35. Group rates are available. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 561-347-3948 or online at willowtheatre.org.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL: Poisoned apples! Glass slippers! Who needs ’em?! Not Snow White and her posse of disenchanted princesses in this ‘musical comedy for grownups’ that’s anything but Grimm. Marcie Gorman and MNM Theatre Company will present the South Florida premiere of Disenchanted, a fun-loving, subversive, and definitely ‘not-for-the kiddies’ musical revue proving that happily-ever-after can be a ‘royal pain in the ass!’  The show will run in the Rinker Playhouse at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from May 12 – 27.

“This one is just so much fun,” Gorman said recently.  “These princesses have so much to say about almost everything!  It’s very funny, very clever, and a little bit raunchy for sure, but as we all know, there can be a lot of truth in comedy, and in satire.”

Disenchanted debuted Off-Broadway in 2014 and played to sold out houses and rave reviews. The show garnered a number of award nominations including ‘Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical’ (Outer Critics Circle Awards), ‘Best New Off-Broadway Musical’ (Off Broadway Alliance Awards), and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations. It has played in multiple languages in13 countries on 5 continents, including an extended 16 week run at the Straz Theatre in Tampa.

Jonathan Van Dyke

“It is such a pleasure to be reunited with this wonderful show and introduce it to south Florida audiences,” says Disenchanted director Jonathan Van Dyke. Van Dyke originally cast the show when it ran in Tampa, and eventually became that production’s company manager.  “Although it’s a raucous, feel-good, uproarious musical,” he continues, Disenchanted also delivers plenty of honesty and poignancy, culminating in a true celebration of all women. In fact, in my opinion women and men will embrace and connect with this empowering material.”

MNM’s mission has always been to hire South Florida talent, and Van Dyke has assembled a stellar cast of local princesses:  Aaron Bower will play Sleeping Beauty, along with Jinon Deeb as Pocahontas and Princess Badroulbadour, Kat Gold as Mulan and Rapunzel, Shelley Keelor as Snow White, Ashley Rubin as Cinderella, Leah Sessa as The Little Mermaid and Belle, and Vallery Valentine as the Princess Who Kissed the Frog.

MNM is also one of the very few companies in South Florida that continues to use live musicians:  MAC and Bistro Award-winner Bobby Peaco will serve as Disenchanted’s Musical Director and pianist and will lead the production’s musical team of Julie Jacobs on Drums and Robert Ziawinski on Bass.

Disenchanted’s Production Stage Manager is Francesca Barioli; the Assistant Stage Manager is Randall Swinton. Lighting Design is Karalyn Fitzgerald, and Sound Design is by Justin Thompson. Penny Williams is the production’s Costume Designer, Wigs are by Justin Lore (Tease & Floof Theatrical Wig Boutique), Props are by Abby Rasmussen and Scenic/Set Design is by Jordon Armstrong.

DELRAY BEACH, FL:  Tickets are now available for the Delray Beach Playhouse’ production of Grease, the rollicking rock ‘n roll musical that is both an homage to the idealism and the music of the 50s, and a satirical look at teenagers’ universal and age-old desire to be provocative and rebellious.  The show will run at the popular Delray Beach venue from August 11th through August 27th.

At Rydell High School the ‘Burger Palace Boys’ are acting tough and stealing hub caps, and their gum-snapping, chain-smoking ‘Pink Ladies’ are looking hot in bobby sox and pedal pushers. But at the heart of Grease is the romance between top Burger Boy hot-rodder Danny Zuko and sweet ‘new girl in town’ Sandy Dumbrowski.   Can Danny maintain his ‘cool dude’ status and still make Sandy his girl?!

Grease has become one of the world’s most popular musicals and has a cult-like following – especially among teens. The show’s book, music, and lyrics are by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, and the show features such iconic classics as “Summer Nights”, “Hopelessly Devoted to You”, “Beauty School Dropout”, “Greased Lightning”, and “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee”.

Auditions for the production will take place at the Playhouse on May 1st and 2nd at 7:30 pm.  All roles are open, and actors of all ethnicities, genders, and ages are encouraged to attend.  The Audition Notice can be viewed below.

The production will be directed by Suzanne Dunn.

Tickets for Grease are $42 and are available online at https://delraybeachplayhouse.com or by calling 561-272-1281.

BOCA RATON, FL:  George Gershwin.  Irving Berlin. Johnny Mercer. Harold Arlen. Sheldon Harnick.  Jerry Herman. These composers and many more will be highlighted in To Life 3: Stories & Music Celebrating the Contributions of Jewish Composers to the Great Hollywood Musicals.  The production will run from January 20th through February 5th at The Willow Theatre in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park. To Life 3 is a follow-up to two previous To Life productions – both of which sold out at the Willow Theatre in 2019 and 2020.

Featuring amusing anecdotes and fascinating historical facts, along with tributes to some of the greatest Jewish performers in Hollywood history, including Eddie Cantor, Danny Kaye, and Barbara Streisand, To Life 3 will be performed by five of South Florida’s award-winning musical theatre artists:  Julie Kleiner, Bruno Faria, Michael Materdomini, Amy Tanner, and Shari Upbin.

Hy Juter

Hy Juter (Jupiter Theater Company, LLC) will produce the show: “We’re extremely excited about this iteration of our To Life series,” he says.  “This time we’re focusing on Hollywood and the outstanding talents that contributed to those great musicals we all remember. We have an amazing cast – their talent is extraordinary! Our director, Shari Upbin, has also written the show this year.  Her background in theatre and her extensive knowledge of the Hollywood musical made her a natural choice to continue our tradition of presenting audiences with a unique combination of history, music, and fun!”

Shari Upbin

Upbin will also direct the production, and Bobby Peaco will serve as music director and pianist.

“To Life 1 and 2 featured the Jewish composers of Broadway,” Upbin says. “But what most people don’t realize is first of all, how many of them transitioned to Hollywood, and secondly, that there were numerous Jewish composers who wrote primarily for ‘the movies’.  I had an amazing time writing the script for the show,” she continues. “I learned so much – there are so many fascinating stories involving these amazingly talented individuals I can’t wait to share with our audiences. And of course,  I couldn’t leave out some of the greatest Jewish stars who left their indelible marks – Eddie Cantor, Danny Kaye, Barbra Streisand… so many and so memorable.”

To Life 3 will run from January 20 through February 5 at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park.  Tickets are $43; group rates (6 or more tickets purchased in one transaction) are $38.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.sugarsandpark.org/life-3 or by phone at 561-347-3948.  The Willow Theatre is located at 300 South Military Trail, in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park (33486).

BOCA RATON, FL:  Along with their commitment to provide opportunities for young and up and coming talent, Entr’Acte Theatrix has a longstanding tradition of giving back to their community.  They have often donated tickets and profits to local and national not-for-profit organizations, including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, Compass LGBTQ Community Center, Red Nose Day – Comic Relief, and earthquake victims in Haiti.  They are continuing this tradition in a different way with their upcoming production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, which will open on October 21st, and run through October 30th at the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton.

“We have set our ticket prices at $20 for this production,” says Entr’Acte Theatrix producer and founder Vicki Halmos.  “We believe this very low price for a fully produced musical comedy will encourage people who have been hesitant to venture back into a theatre until now will find this an incentive to do so.  And that it will perhaps encourage those who have never seen live theatre to come to the Willow Theatre to see what it’s all about!

“In addition, for this show we are holding an on-line auction to benefit Hurricane Ian relief efforts and offering a chance for an audience member to join the cast on stage in a scene during the show,” she adds.

“We have a wonderfully talented cast, they’re doing a marvelous job, and it’s such a fun show,” she continues, “And we want to share the fun with as many people as we can!”

A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend, Mel Brooks’ comedy masterpiece follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen!) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster — but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications

Tickets for Young Frankenstein – The Mel Brooks Musical are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.sugarsandpark.org/young-frankenstein or by phone at 561-347-3948.  Tickets are $20.  Group rates (10 or more tickets purchased in one transaction) are $15.
