The South Florida Theatre League
presents
The Dana Plays
A play reading fundraiser for the American Cancer Society
Inspired by Dana Castellano
Miami, Florida, June 26, 2014
On July 14th the South Florida Theatre League will present The Dana Plays, a play reading fundraiser inspired by Dana Castellano, a beloved member of the local theatrical community.
The event will take place at Miami Theatre Center at 8 pm. Castellano was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer in January 2014.
The evening, which has evolved as an adjunct to the League’s Summer Theatre Fest Play Reading Festival, will raise funds for the American Cancer Society and for Castellano to help her defray the heavy costs of her treatments.
Dana Castellano has been a passionate supporter of and involved with South Florida theatre for over 10 years in both Broward and Palm Beach Counties. She has been an active member of the board of directors the Women’s Theater Project and has dedicated her time and energy a number of theatrical projects. Her love of the theater allowed her to make amazing lifelong friends and share her commitment to the theater and the community.
Castellano is pleased, excited, and tremendously moved by the support she has received from the theatrical community, as well as from her friends and family since her diagnosis. Her plight has led to the formation of a support group, Team Chaos, whose mandate is to raise funds for, and awareness of her situation. They will actively support the event.
Among playwrights contributing to The Dana Plays are Andie Arthur, Christopher Demos-Brown, Jessica Farr, Tony Finstrom, Avi Hoffman, Michael McKeever, Juan C. Sanchez, Deborah Sherman, and Paul Tei.
Tickets for The Dana Plays are $15 each (with any extra donation welcome), and will be available at the door of the theatre the evening of the performance only.

In Chicago, John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse created a work that flawlessly evokes its vaudeville setting. Flamboyant flappers, crooked lawyers, and merry murderesses are all part of a sparkling script and a classic score that includes “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango” and “Razzle Dazzle.” Avi Hoffman, Sally Bondi, and Ken Clement will star.
Delval Divas is a contemporary comedy about four educated, successful, professional women who share something in common: The same address. They reside at the Delaware Valley Federal Correctional Facility, a low-level security prison for white and “pink” collar criminals. With the Warden in one pocket and their cell block guard in another, the “Divas” continue to indulge their lavish and luxurious lifestyles until one of them is prematurely released and a murderess moves into her place.

Audiences will discover what Stephen Sondheim, Abe Lincoln, munchkins and ambivalent lesbians have in common, when they all get the McKeever touch in The Whole Caboodle, the award-winning playwright’s wickedly funny collection of some of his most celebrated short plays. With a razor sharp sense of humor and extra-keen insight, The Whole Caboodle takes apart and reassembles an entire series of lovably flawed characters and pop culture icons with hilarious results.
The Rocky Horror Show is an outrageous assemblage of the most stereotypical science fiction movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage. The play (upon which the classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is based) has grown from an experimental production originally produced in a small London theatre to a cult phenomenon with fans world-wide.
