Chaos Theory: Unbroken
May 20th & 21st

South  Florida’s most prolific poetry group in their first full presentation

April 26, 2016
MIAMI LAKES, FL:   Solo, duet, and trio combinations of poetry and performance will come together when Chaos Theory: Unbroken is performed at the Main Street Playhouse in Miami Lakes, on May 20th and 21st. Conundrum Stages will present the prominent poetic ensemble in an exciting stand-alone showcase of material the group has composed since its inception in 2008.

Chaos Theory is a collective comprised of several of South Florida’s most dynamic spoken word artists. The group was created in 2008 by poets Mr. Rigz (Reagan Mendoza) and Raff Adams (Adam Freilich). It has since grown with the addition of Flow Diva (Rachel Finley), Anon De-Evolution (Jean Marcellot), and Mori Taiye. Raff Adams left the group in early 2011.

Conundrum Stages and Chaos Theory’s relationship began in 2009 when the group contributed to a variety showcase in Oakland Park. They have also been the anchor team for Conundrum Stages’ annual poetry event, The SpeakOut, and contributed to the company’s 5th anniversary event at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale in 2013. Conundrum is proud to provide Chaos Theory the platform for their first ever production; hope is that this performance of Unbroken will be a launching pad for something beyond.

The poets of Chaos Theory each come from different ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, educational and cultural backgrounds. Their personal interests, points of view and styles are as diverse as any group of individuals can be. Yet they have found a way to use all their combined life experiences to create a brand of poetry that is honest, bold, vibrant and soulful. Individually and collectively, they perform nationally, from university stages to packed poetry clubs. Some notable performances and accolades have been: NBC, WSVN/FOX, NPR, University of Miami, University of Illinois-Chicago, Duke University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Minnesota-St. Paul, The National Poetry Slam and Festival, Miami Book Fair International, South Florida’s Lit Walk and many others.

In 2011, Chaos Theory placed third at the Southeastern Regional Poetry Slam (the second largest poetry festival in the country). In December 2015, Chaos Theory were featured performers during Art Basel, the country’s biggest art festival. They have also been nominated for a 2016 Florida Entertainment Legend Award.

Chaos Theory are very involved in non-profit work, donating both time and money to organizations such as Operation Helping Hands Miami, HOPE Inc, Pink Strydes, Soul Survivors Annual Benefit and Fundraiser, CAPE Arts Partnership in Education and Young Arts Miami.

Chaos Theory aim to not only provide comfort and understanding of the uncertainties of daily life, but also to address the complex socio-political issues that affect our world, with the underlying reminder that through the human experience, we are all connected. Chaos Theory can be found online via Facebok, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram under chaostheoryonline.

Chaos Theory: Unbroken will be performed at the Main Street Playhouse for 2 nights only: Friday, May 20th and Saturday, May 21st. Both shows will begin at 8pm.  Advanced admission tickets are $10, tickets purchased at the door will be $15. The Main Street Playhouse is located at 6766 Main Street, in Miami Lakes. CT 12 RigzRIGZ – An accomplished poet and producer, Reagan Mendoza, also known as Mr. Rigz, has been called the “next level” in spoken word production, as well as a “powerhouse poet” on stage.
Born and raised in Chicago, Rigz began his journey as a drummer in a number of successful local bands, a poet/emcee in an underground hiphop collective, as well as a producer/engineer for local artists. After graduating from Columbia College Chicago, Rigz moved to Miami and went right to work recording and mixing for film and television during the day, while producing for poets and artists at night. In 2008, he formed Chaos Theory, a dynamic spoken word group. For the remainder of that year and throughout 2010, he performed all over South Florida as both a solo artist and with Chaos Theory. He also continued to produce for a number of break-out poets throughout the country, including HBO Def Poet Asia, National Slam Champions Carlos Robson, Kataalyst Alcindor and Miami Master slam champion, Bertrand Boyd. Through hard work and dedication, Rigz gained some attention, becoming a featured artist on a number of TV and radio shows, blogs and magazines, including WSVN/Fox, NPR, The Miami Herald, Poetry Is…, Spoken Visionz Magazine and many more.
In 2012, Rigz independently released a critically-acclaimed album, Clay And Concrete. In 2013, he was named “Artist of the Year” by the National Poetry Awards. And in 2015, he was a featured member of the sound department on the movie San Andreas, contributed to two documentaries, and was named one of the 100 Most Talented and Inspiring Creatives in Miami. He is working on his next album.

CT 9 RachelFLOW DIVA – A proud South Florida native, Rachel “Flow Diva” Finley has represented the state as an award winning spoken word artist at regional, national and international poetry slams. You can also catch her production of Venus by Susan Lorie-Parks at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center in the  Spring. Flow would like to thank her parents, Harvetta Finley and the late Frankie Finley, her siblings, Chad, Frankie Jr., Gabrielle Finley-Hazel and Jessalyn Artis, and her children, Charles Harvey Reed, Lily Grace Reed and Lane Martin Finley for their unwavering love and support.

CT 11 Mori 2MORI TAIYE – Morini’kke’ Taiye Williams (Mori Taiye for short) is known for her sultry deep voice, and is presently one of the most profound spoken word artist in South Florida. As a person who likes to describe herself as “…being able to live in two different worlds at the same time,” Mori manages to combine all her experiences into passionate and mesmerizing performances. A California native with roots in Houston, Texas, Mori began with her mother initiating piano lessons that turned into something much more later in life. All throughout grade school and college, Mori was involved in local talent shows, theatre clubs, and plays.  She has received numerous state championship awards as a pianist since the age of 9, and awards for using her writing and performing talents towards humanitarian services to date. She started putting her writing skills specifically towards poetry in 2007, and began performing in local clubs and social events. In 2012, Mori joined the explosive poet collective Chaos Theory, who are national slam champions and travel all throughout the United States. A following was easy to gain with being a featured artist for the Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, radio shows, podcasts, WSVN/Miccosukee Magazine TV, and much more. Be on the look-out for Mori Taiye in the future. She is an ever evolving artist, who is ready to take on the world with the color of words.

“This is Rocky – reinvented and reimagined!”
~ Rosalie Grant, Evening Star Productions

WILTON MANORS, FL:  Evening Star Productions, in partnership with Infinite Abyss will present Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show at The Abyss Stage from May 12th through May 28th.    Evening Star Productions’ Rosalie Grant, and Abyss Stage’s Erynn Dalton will share the directing duties along with Chris Bare as Film Director.

The Rocky Horror Show is an outrageous assemblage of – and humorous tribute to – the most stereotypical science fiction and horror movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage. The play (upon which the classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is based) has grown from an experimental production originally produced in a small London theatre in June 1973, to a cult phenomenon with fans world-wide.  The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple who, when caught in a storm, find refuge in the home of a decidedly unusual scientist who is madly working towards unveiling his latest and greatest creation.

Rosalie Grant

Rosalie Grant

“Directors tend to create their bucket lists a long way away from their end years … in my case I started creating mine before I even started directing!  and yes The Rocky Horror Show has been on that list since I was, ahem!, younger, and inching its way to the top of my list over the last several years,” explains the show’s director, Rosalie Grant.  “After my recent collaborations with Erynn Dalton and Infinite Abyss I realized the time was ripe for us to collaborate on arguably one of the most iconic musicals ever written.  It’s a challenge to direct a cult classic, think outside of the traditional to conceptually reinvent and reimagine, while still staying true to the original to satisfy the diehard Rocky Horror fans.  Time travel plays prominently in the plot … so what better way to travel through time than the steampunk culture?!  We’re excited to bring South Florida a Rocky Horror reborn from tradition and born from the potential of the future.”

“I distinctly remember my first Rocky Horror experience,” the show’s co-director

Erynn Dalton

Erynn Dalton

Erynn Dalton recalls. “I was six years old and my sixteen-year old sister had somehow convinced my mother that bringing her little sister (dressed as Magenta, no less) to the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a good idea. As I watched the movie, I didn’t know why a man was wearing women’s underwear and I didn’t care – all I knew was that I loved the costumes, music and the horror elements (I was already a die-hard horror fan at that age).

“Now, many years later, I’m so excited to be able to put my own personal stamp on such an iconic show, along with the uber-talented Rosalie Grant and Evening Star Productions. In its shows, Infinite Abyss Productions explores the dark side of human nature, and Rocky Horror will be no different as we stray from the “traditional” look and feel of the show into more edgy, sinister territory. As with most Abyss productions, we’ll be using our filmmaking talents to blend filmed elements into the show, intersecting and paying respect to both the Rocky Horror film and play. It will be different from any other Rocky Horror Show, and for that, I am very proud!”

The Rocky Horror Show is also the quintessential audience participation show, and Evening Star will provide Rocky Prop Bags (which will include such ‘must have’ items as a squirt gun, playing cards, and newspaper) for a nominal price.  The producers have also created The Warped VIP Package which will include the Prop Bags, front row seating, and the opportunity to join the cast on stage to dance the Time Warp at the conclusion of the performance.

Grant and Dalton have assembled a talented cast to occupy Dr. Frank N. Furter’s home-sweet-castle including Stephen Michael Kennedy (Brad), Erynn Dalton (Janet), Dominick J. Daniel (Frank N Furter), Taurean DeVoe (Rocky), Seth Trucks (Narrator), Cindy Thagard (Usherette/Magenta), Christian Cooper (Riff Raff), Ireland Glennon (Columbia) Eytan Deray (Eddie), Greg Ward (Dr. Scott), and Robyn Brenner, Gracie Connell, Daryl Fortson, and Robert Moore (Phantoms).

The Rocky Horror Show will run from May 12 – 28 at The Abyss Stage in Wilton Manors. Tickets are $35, $45 for The Warped VIP Package (limited availability), and $15 for students. Group rates are also available. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased at on line office at 561-447-8829 or on line at www.eveningstarproductions.org or at www.infinite-abyss.org.

“Genuinely funny and genuinely romantic.”

April 8, 2016
MARGATE, FL: Comedy, drama, history, and romance:  Bernard Slade’s Same Time Next Year, provides a fascinating – and often very funny – look at two ordinary people who grow and change over an extended period of time.    The Tony and Drama Desk award-winning play will open at Stage Door Theatre on April 15th, and run through May 22nd.

Doris and George, both married to others, meet at a remote inn in 1951 and begin an unusual affair that lasts over 25 years.   Although they are together only once a year, and their relationship is definitely sexual, over the passage of time they develop an emotional intimacy that transcends the physical aspects of their liaison – during their times together they discuss the various issues they are experiencing in their own lives, as well as the social, moral, and political changes that are affecting them, and those around them.

Carbonell Award-winning director Andy Rogow will direct the production, which will star Matthew Korinko and Jacqueline Laggy.

Andy Rogow

Andy Rogow

“Same Time Next Year is a classic comedy for a very good reason,” says Rogow. “It’s so well constructed that even though these two people are committing annual adultery we care deeply about them and their families. We also laugh as they face the challenges of their era, which was also what made the play so successful when it opened in 1975. It wasn’t just a romantic comedy – it explored two characters facing huge societal changes; the move to the suburbs, the Vietnam War, Women’s Liberation and more.”

Same Time Next Year will run from April 15 – May 22 at Stage Door Theatre in Margate. The theatre is located at 8036 Sample Road, in Margate.

Tickets for Same Time Next Year are $38 – $42; $16 student tickets are also available.  Tickets may be purchased at the Broward Stage Door Theatre box office at 954-344-7765 or on line at www.stagedoortheatre.com.

Let your freak flag wave! Let your freak flag fly!  Never take it down!
~
Shrek The Musical

March 29, 2016
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL: “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek…” Thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue.

KWP Productions will present Shrek The Musical, the award-winning fairy tale adventure based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film from April 15th through April 24th at the William T. Dwyer High School Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens.

With new songs by Jeanine Tesosri (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline or Change, and the 2015 Tony Award-winner Fun Home) and a book by David Lindsay-Abaire, whose previous works include High Fidelity, Good People, and Rabbit Hole, which won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Shrek The Musical debuted on Broadway in December of 2008 and went on to win Tony and Drama Desk awards.

Along with the show’s beloved green hero, the musical features a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits.  Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek The Musical empowering message is that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.

Director Kimberly Rommel-Enright’s cast includes Michael Cartwright as Shrek, Whitney Grace Smith as Fiona, Sean Gogan as Donkey, and Angelo Ferraro as Farquaad.

M. Cartwright

Michael Cartwright

“Shrek was near the top of my list of roles that I really wanted to play, so I was very excited when I found out that KWP was going to be putting on this production,” says Cartwright. “The music in the show is incredible and it’s a story familiar to almost everyone (there may be 10 people in the nation who have never seen one of the Shrek movies!), as it follows the plot of the first movie pretty closely. Shrek is such an iconic character in modern pop culture, so there is a certain pressure to get it right, but I’m ecstatic to be taking on the challenge. My experience with KWP was phenomenal with the production of The Addams Family, so I couldn’t wait to work with them again.”

Whitney

Whitney Grace Smith

“To me Shrek The Musical is about discovering that you can love fully and be loved fully by being your true self,” says the show’s Fiona, Whitney Grace Smith. “One of my favorite life quotes is “you are enough, you are so enough, it’s unbelievable how enough you are.” As Fiona, there are so many times when I have to hide my ogre side until eventually I just burst out! Literally! When I finally decide to be who I really am, my life is changed!

“Learning this role has been one of the most enthralling experiences of my life,” she continues. “Working with Kim, Lindsay White (choreographer), and Dominic Raffa (music director) has been such a joy and an incredible learning experience. Traveling into another world with Mike (Shrek), Sean (Donkey), and Angelo (Farquaad) has been filled with so much laughter, growth, and encouragement that I’ve seen my character come to life in an extraordinary way. Between the dancing rats, quick-witted humor, and moving songs, this show is definitely a hit and I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

Shrek The Musical will run from April 15 – April 24, 2016 at William T. Dwyer High School Theatre.  Tickets for Shrek range from $27 – $15.  Tickets may be purchased at the on line at http://kwpproductions.com or by phone at 561-339-4687.

Brings his Hit “Musicomedy”

Baby Boom Baby
to the
Palm Beaches Theatre
April 28 – May 15

March 24, 2016:

MANALAPAN, FL:  Comedy Central/National Lampoon star Tommy Koenig’s Baby Boom Baby has been called wildly entertaining, touching, and very, very funny!  It has also been called well-written, high energy and invigorating.  Koenig will bring his one man “‘musicomedy’- a flashback through our times and the music that defined them” to the Palm Beaches theatre from April 28th through May 15th.

Baby Boom Baby is Koenig’s story, told from his distinctly Baby Boomer perspective. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953, the year Rock and Roll was born.  Raised in Rockaway Beach, the son of a musician who played with Glenn Miller during WW2, Koenig was greatly influenced by chance meetings with John F. Kennedy and later George Carlin, and mostly by what the Beatles brought – the influence of music on Boomers’ culture and personal choices.  In Baby Boom Baby Koenig recounts the years he struggled to keep up with the changing times, just missing Woodstock by a few miles; the rites of passage of College, Travel, Sex and Drugs; and the ever changing cultural and political landscape that music unleashed as it morphed from Disco to Punk to MTV to Rap and beyond.

During the show Koenig channels dozens of well-known – and original – characters in a one man tour de force spanning 7 decades. With original songs and parodies of everyone from The Beatles to Lady Gaga, and from Doo Wop to Hip Hop, Koenig’s impressions include Elton John, Billy Joel, Blondie, Prince, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, The Bee Gees, the Eagles, among others.

DSC_0043“Baby Boom Baby is the culmination and combination of my work in theatre, stand-up comedy, music and art,” Koenig explains. “I get to do it all in this one show. Most of my career I have done all these things separately. I have been an actor since I graduated college ( SUNY Buffalo); a stand-up comedian since the early wave of comedy clubs that spread across the country; a sketch player as well as writer with National Lampoon (If We’re Late Start Without Us  on tour and Class of ’86 Off Broadway and filmed for Showtime); a musical parodist who opened for headliners such as Bonnie Raitt and Joan Jett; co-writer with musicians like Bernie Worrell of The Talking Heads and P Funk; and an artist with many commissions and sales of my ‘Paintings in 3D’ series. In Baby Boom Baby I get to bring all this into play.

Koenig’s first one-man show, The Living Experiment, began in 1987 and ran through 1992 with extended runs in New York and Los Angeles: “It was the first time I had done a show alone but with an ensemble of characters, some of which still appear in Baby Boom Baby – I’ve learned that some routines take years to be perfected and evolved,” he explains. “As George Carlin said “After 35 years of doing this I’m finally starting to figure some of this shit out”.

“It was when I was invited to be an Artist in Residence at The Santa Barbara Theatre in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2009 that the idea for the show really began. For years I’d wanted to do a show called Baby Boom Baby, telling my personal story and the story of my generation through the rock and roll music that influenced Boomers just like me.
BBBTK“I realized although the nostalgia machine was finally getting to our generation with shows like Beatlemania and Beautiful, there wasn’t a show that told the whole story of what it was like to be a Baby Boomer growing up through the decades. I felt that the musical impressions and characters would be entertaining – but what surprises me most is how my story is resonating with the audiences and how they’re really embracing it and the message in it – a return to Peace, Love and Understanding – which is also very rare these days. And there’s nothing better than having a fellow graying Boomer rush back down the aisle and exclaim “That was ME!!” Seeing that audiences of every age who attend the show are ‘getting it’ is a revelation and inspires me to keep doing this show.”

Tommy Koenig has appeared in movies (Mel Brooks’ Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men in Tights) and on television (Boston Legal, Miami Vice, Not Necessarily the News); he was featured on NBC’s Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert where he appeared with David Bowie and Rick James. Around the country in various arenas he opened for artists as varied as Warren Zevon, Alvin Lee, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Mason, Los Lobos, and Joan Jett.   Koenig teaches Stand Up Comedy at the Comics Studio in New York.  One of his students, Brad Zimmerman, has just completed a sold out run at the Palm Beaches Theatre in My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy.

Baby Boom Baby will run from April 28th through May 15th at the Palm Beaches Theatre in Manalapan (formerly Florida Stage/Plaza Theatre).  Tickets are on sale now, and are available on line at palmbeachestheatre.org  or by phone at 855-728-8497.  Tickets for Baby Boom Baby are $40. March 22, 2016:
BOCA RATON, FL:  Evening Star Productions will present Peter Gordon’s comedic send-up of classic ‘whodounnits’, Murdered to Death, from April 14th through May 1st at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton. (There will be a preview performance on April 14th)

Gordon’s spoof – which has been described as ‘deliciously wicked’ and ‘hilarious and very clever’ – has created a cast of stereotypical Agatha Christie-like characters: Bunting the butler; an English Colonel with the prerequisite stiff upper lip; a shady French art dealer and his moll; bumbling local inspectors; and a well-meaning local sleuth who seems to attract murder wherever she goes.  They’re all caught up in the side-splitting antics which follow the mysterious death of the owner of a country manor house.

Murdered to Death will be directed by Evening Star’s Artistic Director, Rosalie Grant:

Rosalie Grant

Rosalie Grant

“My love affair with British comedy goes back to watching Benny Hill with my grandparents up through Monty Python and Fawlty Towers,” Grant explains.  “I first read the Peter Gordon “Death” series and fell absolutely in love with Inspector Pratt (inspired by the character Inspector Clouseau).  So I brought a group of local actor friends together one evening to hear Murdered to Death read, and when it took us over 3 hours to get through the read due to our laughter I knew Evening Star had to stage it.  I am thrilled to have an outstanding cast to bring Murdered to Death to life as a regional premiere!”

Cast in Murdered to Death are Lito Becerra (Constable Thompkins), Jim Gibbons (Bunting, the Butler), Murphy Hayes (Colonel Charles Craddock), Fern Katz (Joan Maple), Kitt Marsh (Margaret Craddock), Christopher Mitchell (Pierre Marceau), Amanda Ortega (Dorothy), Phyllis Spear (Mildred), Renee Elizabeth Turner (Elizabeth Hartley-Trumpington), and Seth Trucks (Inspector Pratt).

With over 1400 professional and amateur productions world-wide, Peter Gordon is one of the UK’s most popular playwrights. To date, he has written twelve comedies, a psychological thriller and a one act comedy.  Of his modern comedies, it has been said that “Peter Gordon writes about life. Sometimes it is bizarre and funny, sometimes it is sad, but it is always entertaining”.

All performances of Murdered to Death will take place at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton.  Tickets are $20 ($10 for students with valid ID) and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at the Sol box office at 561-447-8829 or on line at www.eveningstarproductions.org. Group rates are available. SOL CHILDREN THEATRE
ANNOUNCE THEIR
2016-2017 SEASON
Sol_Evening-Star-Combined-LFrom Samuel Beckett to Lewis Carroll:
Two popular Boca Raton theatre companies will offer audiences and actors of all ages an exciting mix of theatre

March 10, 2016:
BOCA RATON, FL:  Although Evening Star Productions and Sol Children Theatre are just a bit more than midway through their third and fourteenth seasons, both companies – under the direction of founder and Artistic Director Rosalie Grant are deep into preparation for next years’ productions.

Evening Star Productions 2016-2017 season will begin with Gutenberg! The Musical! (September 15 – October 2, 2016), continue with See Rock City and Other Destinations (January 12 – 29, 2017), and conclude with Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot (April 20 – May 7, 2017).

Sol Children Theatre will present Charles Dickens’ The Christmas Carol (adapted from the classic by Brian Way) (December 2 – 18, 2016), Once on this Island (June 9 – 25, 2017), and Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, adapted by Seth Trucks (August 11 – 27).

“With Evening Star entering its fourth season and Sol Children it’s fifteenth, I found myself reevaluating who we are as a theatre company,” Grant explains. “Who do we serve on stage and in our seats, and what sort of theatre should we continue and/or begin to dish out? I started by re-reading every critical review we’ve received to gather those opinions, and compare notes with our patrons’ comments.  I then took into consideration the very specific, not-easily-ignored logistics of our theatre, and finally added our Mission Statement as the umbrella everything must fall under.  A concept formed, and from that concept our next season was born.  Evening Star’s 2016-17 season consists of a regional premiere, an absurdist classic, challenging roles, small casts and brave directors.  Sol Children’s season gets as many children and local adults on stage as possible in family-friendly beloved stories under skillful direction.  Putting the two companies’ seasons together we’re giving local actors and our patrons an eclectic fair of three musicals and three straight plays – from contemporary to classic to absurd to fantasy.  So my job as artistic director is done for now, and my wonderfully talented directors are waiting in the wings!”

Ben Sandomir will direct Gutenberg!  The Musical!  The show, about two aspiring playwrights who perform a backers’ audition for their new musical was nominated for an Outer Circle Award and a Drama Desk Award in 2007:

“The first challenge is to find two versatile actors, as they will be singing all the songs and playing all the roles,” says Sandomir. “The play is normally very barebones as these aspiring playwrights are not yet successful. This is where the fun of directing will come in. As a director and writer I’ve worked on many low and no budget productions. The smaller the budget the more creative you have to be. The juices are already flowing and I can’t wait to fully figure out what this means for Gutenberg! at Evening Star!”

“Ever since seeing a college production of See Rock City and Other Destinations a few years ago, I’ve been fascinated with the notion this musical offers,” the show’s director Geoffrey Short explains. “Traveling and relationships have more in common than might meet the eye. Whether you’re on a North Carolina highway or on a tour in Niagara Falls, exploration, discovery, getting lost and being found can happen on the road and in our personal lives too. See Rock City is a contemporary musical about connections missed and made at tourist destinations across America.  When this show is presented in the intimate Evening Star theatre space I know it will create a very personal, funny and touching theatrical experience for our audiences.”

Rosalie Grant will direct Waiting for Godot herself.  “Godot is a comedic director’s dream script,” she says.  “It’s also the perfect vehicle for an ensemble experience.  It’s a challenging piece to say the least … for actors, director and audience. Putting these three elements together guaranteed an exciting venture, and I’m excited to freshly imagine Beckett’s word play to bring the poetry, dreamscapes and nonsense to life through a cast of what will have to be very skillful actors.”

Sol Children Theatre’s first production of the 2016-2017 The Christmas Carol is perfectly timed to fit the spirit of the holiday season:

“With it paying homage to both a cherished story and treasured holiday, I’m thrilled to be directing this production,” director Christopher Mitchell explains.  “Its eerie, spooky undertones and heartwarming ending will be great fun to play with next winter. Everyone loves a good ghost story and a great Christmas story. And with this show, you get both!

“Once On This Island is set in the Caribbean Sea one stormy night,” director James Skiba explains. “It contains elements of both Romeo and Juliet and the fairy tale The Little Mermaid. The story concerns a young peasant girl, TiMoune who is saved from a deadly storm by the gods on a tropical island, and who uses the power of love to bring together people of different social classes; it talks about society and the various classes and how we treat one another. In the end it is due to the young Ti Moune’s heart and her dedication to this true love that others begin to change and a seed is sown to make the world a better place where we all Live Once On This Island of Mother Earth in the hope that someday all of us might be able to truly love who ever we so choose. And that is why we tell the story.”

Evening Star Productions will continue its current season with the British Comedy Murdered to Death, which will run from April 14th through May 1st at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton. They are also teaming up with Infinite Abyss to present a ‘steam punk’ version of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, which will run at the Abyss Theatre in Ft. Lauderdale from May 12 – 28.  Rosalie Grant will direct both productions.   From June 17 – 26 they will present The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [Revised], and they’ll close out their season with a ground-breaking project directed and adapted by Seth Trucks – William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream from August 6 – 21.

All Evening Star Productions and Sol Children Theatre performances (other than The Rocky Horror Show) will take place at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton.  Ticket prices for all productions are listed below; group rates are available for all shows. Tickets to all Evening Star Productions and Sol Children Theatre 2016-2017 productions will be on sale soon; tickets for both companies remaining 2015-2016 productions are on sale now and can be purchased at the Sol Theatre box office at 561-447-8829 or on line at www.eveningstarproductions.org or www.solchildren.org  Sol Theatre is located at 3333 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton (33431).

“Don’t Cry For Me Argentina
The Truth Is I Never Left You”
-Eva Perón – Evita

March 8, 2016

MARGATE, FL:  Stage Door Theatre’s production of the multi-award winning Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical Evita will open on March 18th and run through April 24th.

Based on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, who became the spiritual leader of the nation, Evita traces this charismatic woman’s rise from obscurity to fame and fortune as one of the most influential political leaders in the country’s history.

The idea for the show began as a result of a visit to Argentina by lyricist Tim Rice, and a subsequent reunion and collaboration with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – their first since the release of their double album Jesus Christ Superstar in 1970.  Like Superstar, Evita began as a rock opera concept album.  And like its predecessor, the album produced a smash it single, ‘Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina’, which, much to Rice’s delight would have people “walking into the theatre whistling the tune,” when the album went on to become a full length production – first in London’s West End, where it won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and then on Broadway, where it became the first British musical to win the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Michael Leeds

Michael Leeds

Evita will be directed by Michael Leeds.  Kevin Black will choreograph the production, and Caryl Fantel is the show’s Musical Director.

“Since the first production in 1978, Evita has had over a thousand productions all over the world,” says Leeds.  “Kevin and I were attracted to this story of a woman who journeys from being an illegitimate, poverty-stricken child in the pampas of Argentina to become the most powerful woman in the world.  This musical is all about passion.  It fuels every scene and every relationship.  We watch the cat and mouse foreplay between Evita and Juan Perón, their rise to power and their manipulation of an adoring public, all seen through the cynical eyes of an impassioned Che Guevara.

Kevin Black

Kevin Black

“Because the tango is such an integral element to that world, Kevin and I have set theentire show in a tango bar,” Leeds explains. “Kevin hired an extraordinary couple who specializes in the tango and they lead us through the story in dance just as Che does through song.  It’s a potent combination.

“We needed a really talented cast of singers to do justice to Andrew Lloyd Weber’s music, he continues.  “We were lucky to find our fourteen-member ensemble from South Florida’s talented pool of singer/dancers.  We found our Evita (Jenna Pastuszek) in New York, our Che (Trevor Whitaker) in Great Britain, and our Perón is the talented Rick Hvizdak who we just worked with in Promises, Promises.  It’s an exciting production to create and I’m sure it will be just as exciting to watch!”

Caryl Fantel

Caryl Fantel

Caryl Fantel, the shows musical director is equally enthusiastic. “What an epic piece of theatre!” she says. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of Stage Door’s production of Evita. This musical tells the powerful story of Eva Perón almost entirely through music that is alternately sweeping and raw, and filled with emotion. Devotees of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber may catch hints of the master’s other works, including Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in this music. For our production, we have assembled an impressive group of actor/singer/dancers who share this true-life tale of ambition and political seduction that is timeless and certainly relevant today.”

Evita will run from March 18 – April 24 at The Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs. The theatre is located at 8036 Sample Road, in Margate.

Tickets for Evita are $38 – $42; $16 student tickets are also available.  Tickets may be purchased at the Broward Stage Door Theatre box office at 954-344-7765 or on line at www.stagedoortheatre.com.

These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ So let’s go Downtown taking The Long And Winding Road to A Bridge Over Troubled Waters.  Then I’ve Got Georgia On My Mind, so I’ll be Leavin’ On A Jet Plane with My Girl, My Guy and Eleanor Rigby.  But if you’re California Dreamin’, I’m feelin’ those Good Vibrations so just Walk Like A Man and let’s Hit The Road, Jack.  YOU Don’t Have To Say You Love Me ’cause Our Day Will Come and we’re gonna be Happy Together. How do I know…? I Heard It Through The Grapevine!

February 11, 2016
MARGATE, FL:  What’s New Pussycat? The Soundtrack of an Era the popular Michael Leeds/Kevin Black musical compendium of the music of the 1960s will return to Stage Door Theatre beginning February 19th, and run through March 27th.

“We’ve had so many requests to bring back the show, not only from people who didn’t get to see it, but from those who want to see it again!” Michael Leeds explains.  “For this go round we’ve hired six very talented actor/singer/dancers from New York.  Actually, the three guys were in the show we just did, Pompadour, and we were so impressed, we asked them to stick around!  Kevin and I are having a great time re-visiting the 60s and hearing these new voices sing those incredible songs. How can you get tired of songs like “Yesterday”, “Dancing in the Street”, and of course, “What’s New, Pussycat!””

The idea for What’s New Pussycat? The Soundtrack of an Era was born when Stage Door Theatre’s artistic director Derelle Bunn mentioned to Leeds and Black that she had an open time slot for a show in the summer of 2014, and asked them if they’d be interested in ‘doing something’. They jumped at the chance. “Kevin and I had wanted to work together for a while, and this was a terrific opportunity,” Leeds said.  “And then, of course, the question became – what should we do?!”

What’s New Pussycat? The Soundtrack of an Era, the result of their collaboration opened at Stage Door Theatre in August of 2014 and was an immediate hit with audiences and critics alike.

“What’s New, Pussycat? was originally going to be a revue of just Burt Bacharach songs,” Leeds explained at the time.  “But as Kevin and I started listening to Bacharach’s music, we kept being distracted by other great songs of the same era.  So we decided to expand the show to include The Mamas & The Papas, Simon & Garfunkel, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Etta James, Ray Charles, The Righteous Brothers, The Fifth Dimension and all those Motown greats like The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Ronettes, as well as incredible composers and writers like Henry Mancini, Michel LeGrand and of course, Burt Bacharach!

“Creating the piece took careful deliberation, Leeds continued: “From past experience, both Kevin and I learned that though there are no “rules” to creating a musical revue, there are some guidelines.  First, of course, is what songs are the most popular; the songs the audience is coming to hear.”   (See below for a complete list of songs)

Leeds and Black will revisit their roles as the show’s director and choreographer, and Carbonell Award-winner Eric Alsford will once again serve as What’s New Pussycat’s musical director/arranger.

The What’s New Pussycat?  The Soundtrack of an Era’s cast consists of Jessica Bennett, Brandon Godfrey, Preston Grover, Caitlie Moss, Dana Reminsky, and Jay Wilkinson.
