jake-rockBOCA RATON, FL:  Jake Ehrenreich, playwright, author and academically recognized expert on Comedy, Catskills and the Holocaust, will present a completely updated version of his beloved autobiographical comedy musical A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, when A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 opens at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton for a limited four week run from February 2 – 26. This production will be followed by an additional five performances at the Coral Springs Performing Arts Center from March 10-12.

Filled with new insights gained from his years of interviews, films, writing, and performing since the original 2006/2007 record breaking show debuted at the historic Lambs Theatre in the heart of Broadway, A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 creator and star Jake Ehrenreich brings a renewed and expanded knowledge of how Comedy, the Holocaust, and the Catskills affected his life, and the lives of so many others.

This new incarnation of the show, co-directed by Jon Huberth and Lisa Ehrenreich, further explores how Ehrenreich, who grew up in Brooklyn in the 1960’s-70’s, struggled with his family’s survivor history, and later with both his sisters and mother’s early Alzheimer’s disease – “and how we all must handle our individual challenges in life.” The production makes use of extensive multi-media, music and comedy to entertainingly convey its uplifting message. Ehrenreich’s extraordinary tour de force performance, filled with laughter, tears and first class musicianship, resonates with audiences of all ages.

Jake Ehrenreich, 60, is an award-winning actor, playwright, musician and author. He has appeared on Broadway in Dancin’, Barnum and They’re Playing Our Song and toured internationally as Ringo in Beatlemania. He has performed and recorded with such diverse artists as Richie Havens, Greg Allman, Whitney Houston, Tito Puente, Jay Leno, and the Smothers Brothers.

A full-length book, A Jew Grows in Brooklyn: The Curious Reflections of a First Generation American was Published by HCI – (Chicken Soup for the Soul), in 2010. Ehrenreich has recorded a CD Yiddish Unplugged, and is currently taping a TV variety show debuting in 2017.

book-2Jake Ehrenreich’s unique historical writings are included in the 2016 academic anthology Summer Haven, The Catskills, the Holocaust and the Literary Imagination, along with those of Nobel laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer and Pulitzer Prize winner Art Spiegelman. His expertise is also featured in the Shoah documentary Making Light In Terezin, and he currently appears with Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Louis CK, and Sarah Silverman in The Last Laugh, a film exploring Comedy and the Holocaust. Jake Ehrenreich will be a special guest speaker at an upcoming screening of the film at the Miami Jewish Film Festival on January 21 and 23.

Earlier this year, in recognition of his numerous accomplishments, Ehrenreich was inducted into the Brooklyn Jewish Hall of Fame; The City of New York and the Borough of Brooklyn created a special proclamation declaring A Jew Grows in Brooklyn Day; and the famous Carnegie Deli offered the ultimate honor by creating a namesake sandwich!

BOCA RATON, FL:  Danny Kaye was world famous as a star of Vaudeville, theatre, film, and television; Sylvia Fine was his primary songwriter, his mentor, his motivator, and his wife.  These two – each strong and fascinating personalities in their own right – are the subjects of Danny Kaye and Sylvia:  A Musical Love Story, which will open at the Willow Theater in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park on January 13th, and run through January 29th.   The show has played to sold out houses in London, New York, and Washington, D.C.

The young, undisciplined comic Danny Kaminsky met aspiring songwriter Sylvia Fine at an audition for The Straw Hat Review in 1939. (Fine had written the music and lyrics for the show). After a whirlwind courtship they were married in Ft. Lauderdale in January 1940; under Sylvia’s guidance, Danny Kaye rose from an impoverished improvisational comic to become an international star.

Kaye and Sylvia Fine – their performances in  The Jazz Singer, were lauded by audiences and critics alike.  This will be the second show mounted by Black Box Booking and Hy Juter. Their January 2016 production of the aforementioned production, The Jazz Singer, sold out every performance at the Willow Theatre.

“If Danny Kaye had not been born,” a Hollywood writer once observed, “no one could possibly have invented him, it would have been stretching credibility far past the breaking point.”  Kaye was a virtuoso entertainer – an actor, a singer, a dancer, a comedian and a clown. He won two honorary Oscars, an Emmy, a Peabody Award, a Golden Globe, the French Legion of Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Kaye was a licensed pilot (in 1979 he made the Guinness Book of Records by piloting a private jet to 65 cities in the U.S. and Canada in 5 days), a gourmet chef, and a symphony conductor – although he could not read a note of music. And he was the first Good Will Ambassador to UNICEF.

Sylvia Fine was a gifted writer, producer, pianist, lyricist, and Oscar-nominated composer in her own right. She wrote many of Kaye’s best known songs and sketches and contributed numerous pieces to Kaye’s various movies, radio, and television programs.

Danny Kaye and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story, written by Robert McElwaine, includes a number of Kaye’s most famous songs – many of them written by Fine – including ‘Tchaikovsky’, ‘Balling the Jack’, and ‘Anatole of Paris’. McElwaine and Kaye met when McElwaine worked as director of advertising and publicity at the Goldwyn Studios in the 1950s; he subsequently became the star’s publicist and confidant for 20 years.  Danny Kaye and Sylvia explores the romance, the talent, and conflict that made them such a successful – and volatile couple.

The show’s director, Larry K. Bramble has also designed the set and the lighting for the production.  Musical direction is by Annaliesa Trethewey, sound design by Jason Hesler, and costumes are by Mary Ellen Many.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL:  In keeping with their mandate to nurture and support the next generation of theatre artists, Entr’Acte Theatrix and The Peter Halmos Foundation will collaborate with a brand new company – Theatre of Collaborative Arts – to present the award-winning musical play Peter and the Starcatcher.  The production will run from October 6 – 16 at the William G. Skaff Center in West Palm Beach.

Theatre of Collaborative Arts, founded by Carlo Rufino Sabusap, a Entr’Acte Theatrix alumnus, is a new community theatre and arts effort in West Palm Beach with a mission to produce artistic experiences through collaboration.

The winner of numerous honors, including five 2012 Tony Awards, Peter and the Starcatcher was named one of the New York Times, New York Magazine, New Yorker’s Top 10 shows of the year. The play is based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and was conceived for the stage by a multiple award-winning creative team including directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, writer Rick Elice, and composer Wayne Barker.

Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair, and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, containing a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training, who realizes the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Carlo-Rufino Sabusap will direct the production:  “Peter and the Starcatcher is by far my favorite play,” Sabusap explains. “I saw it on Broadway a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with its magic and inventive use of the theatrical experience. It uses some of the oldest, most traditional methods of stage craft, but uses it in a way that is totally inventive and fresh. I’m sure audiences of all ages who appreciate true, live theatre will enjoy every moment.

“We’re working with Entr’Acte Theatrix to bring this show to life,” he continues, “And I’m very grateful for their help and support – something that Entr’Acte has been doing as part of their mission from the beginning.”

“Yes, indeed,” says Vicki Halmos, Entr’Acte Theatrix founder and Executive Producer. “Entr’Acte and the Halmos Foundation are pleased to facilitate the launching of this new theatre venture -TCA – in West Palm Beach. It will bring further opportunities for young people interested in theatrical arts to hone their skills and gain performance experience. Part of our goal, of course, is always to add resume building to their theatrical cache.”

Several of Peter and The Starcatcher’s cast members have been part of Entr’Acte Theatrix’ troupe; others are new to the group and to the stage.

Veteran cast members are Devin Tupler as Molly Aster, David W. Lamphier as Lord Leonard Aster, Rosseroni Paris as Black Stache, and Greg Halmos as Smee, Nik Rosa as Bill Slank/Fighting Prawn, Christopher Lam as Mrs. Bumbrake. New cast members include Tom Matthews as Peter, Matthew Cejmer as Ted, Brayan Betancourt as Prentiss, Alex Fine as Alf/Captain Scott, Amada Ruggiero as Grempkin, and Ben Shaevitz as Hawking Clam/Mack/Sanchez.

Entr’Acte Theatrix is a not-for-profit, semi-professional, showcase company providing opportunities for emerging theatre artists, both on-stage and backstage.  The fifteen-year-old company gives students with a goal of working in the theatrical profession a chance to gain experience in their area of training or interest.  Entr’Acte, as the name suggests, is the “next step,” from classroom to career, and provides the young theatre artist with one of his or her all-important resume-building credits.

MARGATE, FL:  Kevin Black’s recent hit production, The Soul of Motor City, had audiences on their feet and dancing in the aisles.  The show received a Carbonell recommendation, and was extended numerous times past its originally scheduled closing date.  It’s no wonder then, that Stage Door Theatre’s Executive Producer Derelle Bunn has asked Black to develop another brand new show for her ever-popular theatre.

Black’s Swing! Swing! Swing! will have its world premiere at Stage Door on October 7th.  The show is scheduled to run through November 20th.

“Swing music has its roots in Jazz, beginning in New Orleans and Kansas City then eventually moving its way across the nation.” Black explains.  “Once it reached New York City, the phenomenon quickly became the pop music of its day. Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller took the jazz infused sounds of George Gershwin and Louis Armstrong and invented a genre that featured a strong drum and bass line, creating that unmistakable rhythm that lead to the high energy dance styles of the jitterbug and the jive.

“Swing! Swing! Swing! pays tribute to these Jazz and Swing classics, told through various thematic groupings of songs and artists,” he continues. “That Big Band sound, normally created by a 20 plus piece swing band, will be reimagined by utilizing live piano, bass and drums, while incorporating the cast as the brass section through rhythmic vocals and harmonized scatting. The show is set in an Art Deco style club, masterfully envisioned by Michael McClain. We are certain the more senior patrons of Stage Door will thoroughly enjoy reliving these timeless classics. Our hope is to bring this magnificent musical style to a new generation of audiences.”

Just a few of the classic pieces that will be revisited include ‘Tuxedo Junction’,’In The Mood”, ‘Stardust’, ‘Stormy Weather’, ‘I Got Rhythm’, and of course ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing.’

The cast of Swing! Swing! Swing! includes Sharyn Peoples, Don Seward, Emily Tarallo, Alexandra Van Hasselt, Danny Durr, and Elijah Wood, whose recent appearance in The Soul of Motor City received rave reviews.

Kevin Black is the owner of Kevin Black Productions, a global company providing entertainment to cruise lines, corporate events, resorts, musical theater productions, and tours. Kevin’s extensive cruise line work includes costume design, choreography, production, and direction on Norwegian, Saga, and Asuka Cruise Lines. MARGATE, FL:   Stage Door Theatre’s September production is a Tony Award-winning musical based on the fascinating story of one family’s rise from the ghettos of late eighteenth century Germany to domination of the European financial community and the loftiest echelons of society.  The Rothschilds will open on September 2nd and run through October 16th in the theatre’s large auditorium.

The Rothschilds has been called ‘one of the boldest book musicals of its time; a heartfelt testimony to family, dignity, honor, and unflinching tenacity.’ (Music Theatre International) The musical was the final collaboration between Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me); the book was by Sherman Yellen. The Rothschilds was nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning two.

Based on the book The Rothschilds, by Frederic Morton, the musical tells the story of “shrewd, charismatic, resourceful and ambitious Mayer Rothschild and his five sons [as they] struggle to overcome the prejudice of late eighteenth century European society …and build a family banking …On the way, they come to dominate European finance, help fund Napoleon’s defeat, and secure a Declaration of Rights for their people from the Crowned Heads of State. It’s truly Europe’s most famous rags-to-riches story.” (Music Theatre International)

Peter J. Loewy will direct the production, which will star Matthew Chizever as Mayer Rothschild, Jonathan Eisele as Kalman Rothschild, Sebastian Lombardo as Solomon Rothschild, Alex Salup as Amshel Rothschild, Rio Peterson as Jacob Rothschild, Alexander Zenoz as Nathan Rothschild, Meredith Bartmon as Gutele Rothschild, Whitney Grace as Hannah Cohen, and Troy Stanley as Prince Metternich.  David Nagy will serve as the Musical Director for the production, Dean Landhuis is the Lighting Designer, and Larry Bauman is the show’s Costume Designer.

The Rothschilds will run from September 2 – October 16 at Stage Door Theatre in Margate. The theatre is located at 8036 Sample Road, in Margate.

MARGATE, FL:  Kevin Black’s The Soul of Motor City, which will open at Stage Door Theatre on June 10th and run through July 17th, is the happy realization of a personal goal for the multi-talented director/choreographer.

“After 25 years of directing and producing shows that have played all over the world, I finally have the opportunity to create a show featuring my absolute favorite style of music, the songs from The Motor City – Detroit!”  he explains.

“Those great songs – classics like “What’s Going On”, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, and “Can’t Get Next To You” couldn’t have originated anywhere else but in Detroit – a city that may be known for the start of the American automotive industry, but will forever be remembered for its unmistakable sound.

“Starting in the early 50s, soulful music came pouring out of basements onto the streets of Detroit,” he continues.  “Young singers were forming groups that would become known to the world as The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Marvelettes, The Jackson Five and The Supremes; multi-talented artists like “Little” Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson, and even The Queen of Soul herself – Ms. Aretha Franklin – all got their start in Detroit.  The tunes that came out of The Motor City were timeless songs that have impacted generation after generation.  Although they’re often remembered as “feel-good” dance hits, The Soul of Motor City focuses on the lyrics of these now classic tunes.

“As Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell put it so succinctly – “Ain’t Nuthin’ Like The Real Thing.”  And the six performers in The Soul of Motor City are the real thing!”

The cast of The Soul of Motor City includes Mimi J, whose performance in Black’s recent production of On the Radio at Stage Door had audiences on their feet every night, Jar’Davion Brown, Gabrielle Graham, Joshua Graham, Elijah Word, and Alexandria Lugo who has received glowing reviews for her work in Putting It Together, now playing in Stage Door’s Theatre 1.

Kevin Black is the owner of Kevin Black Productions, a global company providing entertainment to cruise lines, corporate events, resorts, musical theater productions, and tours. Kevin’s extensive cruise line work includes costume design, choreography, production, and direction on Norwegian, Saga, Royal Caribbean and Asuka Cruise Lines. Corporate clients include HP, Motorola, Muvico, and Giorgio Armani; tours include original works – Cirque style shows, as well as musical theater productions including La Cage Aux Folles, The Jazz Singer, Smokey Joe’s Café, Funny Girl, Victor/Victoria, Cabaret, and Dreamgirls. Kevin’s work can currently be seen at the Villa de Palmar Resorts in Cabo, Mexico. His most recent work includes Laffing Matterz at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts; 8 Track, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, and Rags at The Plaza Theatre in Manalapan, Florida; What’s New Pussycat?, On The Radio, A Chorus Line, Promises, Promises, Pompadour, and Evita at The Stage Door Theatre in Margate, Florida. He also recently directed and choreographed Spamalot, Tommy, The Rocky Horror Show, and Into The Woods for Entre’Acte Theatrix performing at The Crest Theatre in Delray Beach, Florida. Kevin is the producer, director and choreographer of an original children’s show, The Adventures of Bella & Harry, and is the Artistic Director for CAST (Career in the Arts, School of Talent) located in Cooper City, Florida.

MARGATE, FL:  The matchless music of composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim is featured in Putting It Together, an inventive, energetic musical revue showcasing the work of America’s modern master composer.   Putting It Together will open at Stage Door Theatre on May 13th and run through June 19th.

Putting It Together, which drew its title from a song in Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George, was created by Sondheim and Julia Mackenzie (and produced by Cameron Mackintosh) in response to numerous requests for a new production similar to the 1976 Tony Award-winning revue, Side By Side By Sondheim.

The show focuses on two couples – one middle aged and married, the other young lovers – thrown together at a cocktail party in a Manhattan penthouse. Together they – along with a narrator who provides insight and commentary throughout the proceedings – reflect upon the complexities that make up modern relationships.  The show uses close to 30 of Sondheim’s songs – some beloved classics, some rarely heard pieces – to tell their stories.  Full of sharp wit, not to mention marital mayhem, Putting It Together is filled with Stephen Sondheim’s unique take on love, relationships, and life.

Peter J. Loewy will direct the production, which will feature Carbonell Award-winner Ann Marie Olson, along with Alexandria Lugo, Anthony Masarotto, Darrick Penny, and Jason Plourde.

“I’m thrilled to be back at the Broward Stage Door Theatre directing a terrifically talented cast in Putting It Together,” says Peter J. Loewy, who will direct the production. “This compilation of songs from one of the most prolific composers in the history of Broadway, Stephen Sondheim, sings of love, relationships, marriage, and infidelity in a humorous tongue in cheek fashion. It’s filled with beautiful melodic ballads, Broadway classics, and a few songs that might not be quite all that familiar to some of our audiences, but will resonate just the same.

“Our cast is backed by a live band led by musical director David Nagy,” he continues.  “Our audiences are in for a charming, wonderfully elegant evening at Putting It Together. I’ll drink to that!”

“I am playing Man 2 in the show,” explains fellow cast member Darrick Penny. “And it’s such an honor to be able to sing some Sondheim again! My role is the optimist/romantic type; it’s been a while since I’ve been able to play with this kind of character, and I’m really enjoying it. The music is beautiful and it brings back many of the Sondheim favorites with some fresh takes on them as well.”

WILTON MANORS, FL:  Evening Star Productions, in partnership with Infinite Abyss will present Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show at The Abyss Stage from May 12th through May 28th.    Evening Star Productions’ Rosalie Grant, and Abyss Stage’s Erynn Dalton will share the directing duties along with Chris Bare as Film Director.

The Rocky Horror Show is an outrageous assemblage of – and humorous tribute to – the most stereotypical science fiction and horror movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage. The play (upon which the classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is based) has grown from an experimental production originally produced in a small London theatre in June 1973, to a cult phenomenon with fans world-wide.  The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple who, when caught in a storm, find refuge in the home of a decidedly unusual scientist who is madly working towards unveiling his latest and greatest creation.

“Directors tend to create their bucket lists a long way away from their end years … in my case I started creating mine before I even started directing!  and yes The Rocky Horror Show has been on that list since I was, ahem!, younger, and inching its way to the top of my list over the last several years,” explains the show’s director, Rosalie Grant.  “After my recent collaborations with Erynn Dalton and Infinite Abyss I realized the time was ripe for us to collaborate on arguably one of the most iconic musicals ever written.  It’s a challenge to direct a cult classic, think outside of the traditional to conceptually reinvent and reimagine, while still staying true to the original to satisfy the diehard Rocky Horror fans.  Time travel plays prominently in the plot … so what better way to travel through time than the steampunk culture?!  We’re excited to bring South Florida a Rocky Horror reborn from tradition and born from the potential of the future.”

Erynn Dalton recalls. “I was six years old and my sixteen-year old sister had somehow convinced my mother that bringing her little sister (dressed as Magenta, no less) to the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show was a good idea. As I watched the movie, I didn’t know why a man was wearing women’s underwear and I didn’t care – all I knew was that I loved the costumes, music and the horror elements (I was already a die-hard horror fan at that age).

“Now, many years later, I’m so excited to be able to put my own personal stamp on such an iconic show, along with the uber-talented Rosalie Grant and Evening Star Productions. In its shows, Infinite Abyss Productions explores the dark side of human nature, and Rocky Horror will be no different as we stray from the “traditional” look and feel of the show into more edgy, sinister territory. As with most Abyss productions, we’ll be using our filmmaking talents to blend filmed elements into the show, intersecting and paying respect to both the Rocky Horror film and play. It will be different from any other Rocky Horror Show, and for that, I am very proud!”

The Rocky Horror Show is also the quintessential audience participation show, and Evening Star will provide Rocky Prop Bags (which will include such ‘must have’ items as a squirt gun, playing cards, and newspaper) for a nominal price.  The producers have also created The Warped VIP Package which will include the Prop Bags, front row seating, and the opportunity to join the cast on stage to dance the Time Warp at the conclusion of the performance.

Grant and Dalton have assembled a talented cast to occupy Dr. Frank N. Furter’s home-sweet-castle including Stephen Michael Kennedy (Brad), Erynn Dalton (Janet), Dominick J. Daniel (Frank N Furter), Taurean DeVoe (Rocky), Seth Trucks (Narrator), Cindy Thagard (Usherette/Magenta), Christian Cooper (Riff Raff), Ireland Glennon (Columbia) Eytan Deray (Eddie), Greg Ward (Dr. Scott), and Robyn Brenner, Gracie Connell, Daryl Fortson, and Robert Moore (Phantoms).

MARGATE, FL:  Stage Door Theatre’s production of the multi-award winning Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical Evita will open on March 18th and run through April 24th.

Based on the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, who became the spiritual leader of the nation, Evita traces this charismatic woman’s rise from obscurity to fame and fortune as one of the most influential political leaders in the country’s history.

The idea for the show began as a result of a visit to Argentina by lyricist Tim Rice, and a subsequent reunion and collaboration with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber – their first since the release of their double album Jesus Christ Superstar in 1970.  Like Superstar, Evita began as a rock opera concept album.  And like its predecessor, the album produced a smash it single, ‘Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina’, which, much to Rice’s delight would have people “walking into the theatre whistling the tune,” when the album went on to become a full length production – first in London’s West End, where it won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical, and then on Broadway, where it became the first British musical to win the Tony Award for Best Musical.

Evita will be directed by Michael Leeds.  Kevin Black will choreograph the production, and Caryl Fantel is the show’s Musical Director.

“Since the first production in 1978, Evita has had over a thousand productions all over the world,” says Leeds.  “Kevin and I were attracted to this story of a woman who journeys from being an illegitimate, poverty-stricken child in the pampas of Argentina to become the most powerful woman in the world.  This musical is all about passion.  It fuels every scene and every relationship.  We watch the cat and mouse foreplay between Evita and Juan Perón, their rise to power and their manipulation of an adoring public, all seen through the cynical eyes of an impassioned Che Guevara.

“Because the tango is such an integral element to that world, Kevin and I have set theentire show in a tango bar,” Leeds explains. “Kevin hired an extraordinary couple who specializes in the tango and they lead us through the story in dance just as Che does through song.  It’s a potent combination.

“We needed a really talented cast of singers to do justice to Andrew Lloyd Weber’s music, he continues.  “We were lucky to find our fourteen-member ensemble from South Florida’s talented pool of singer/dancers.  We found our Evita (Jenna Pastuszek) in New York, our Che (Trevor Whitaker) in Great Britain, and our Perón is the talented Rick Hvizdak who we just worked with in Promises, Promises.  It’s an exciting production to create and I’m sure it will be just as exciting to watch!”

Caryl Fantel, the shows musical director is equally enthusiastic. “What an epic piece of theatre!” she says. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of Stage Door’s production of Evita. AVENTURA, FL:  After a record-breaking success at the historic Lambs Theater in the heart of Broadway in 2006-2007, and a reprise in 2012, Jake Ehrenreich returns to South Florida and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center for a limited run of just four encore performances of his hit show A Jew Grows in Brooklyn.  The show will run from January 24-26, 2016.

Ehrenreich’s “rock ‘n roll true story, Holocaust family, Borscht Belt” autobiographical comedy sold out when it played at Aventura last season.

Jake001a_highWhen Jake Ehrenreich was growing up in Brooklyn in the 1960s and 70’s, he wanted nothing more than to be All American. But his Yiddish-speaking parents, who failed to understand the game of baseball or make sense of rock music, made it difficult for him to feel part of the mainstream culture. In his comedy musical memoir, A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, directed by Jon Huberth, Ehrenreich explores how his family history, dominated by the shadow of the Holocaust, shaped the man he turned out to be. A multimedia performance, complete with photos and video of his relatives, bar mitzvah, and wedding – and filled with laughter, tears, and music, Ehrenreich’s stories will resonate with audiences of all ages.

“I wanted to tell a very serious story – but make it accessible with as much joy and laughter and music as possible”. Ehrenreich said, noting that his show is mostly upbeat and optimistic.

The Philadelphia Inquirer called the show “An uplifting treasure with universal appeal – in the same elevated company as Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays, and Chaz Palminteri’s A Bronx Tale.”

Jake Ehrenreich, 58, an award winning actor, playwright, musician and author, has appeared on Broadway in Dancin’, Barnum and They’re Playing Our Song and toured internationally as Ringo in Beatlemania. He has performed and recorded with such diverse artists as Richie Havens, Greg Allman, Tito Puente, Cab Calloway, Jay Leno and the Smothers Brothers.
