BOCA RATON, FL: Off Glades Theatre Company’s first production of the 2026 season will be [title of show] the unique – and delightful – one act autobiographical musical by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell. The production will run in Boca Raton’s Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park from February 13th through March 1st.

[title of show] chronicles its own creation as an entry in the New York Musical Theatre Festival and follows Jeff and Hunter – two struggling writers – after they hear about the competition.  Even though the deadline for submissions is just three weeks away, the two decide to try to create something new, and with the help of some friends conversations begin as they discuss what to write about.  Eventually, Jeff suggests they write about what to write about! They make a pact to write up until the festival’s deadline and dream about the show changing their lives. [title of show] is taken from the space on the festival’s application form which asks for the “[title of show]”.

The production will be directed by Social Media Superstar Jodie Langel who has garnered over 1 billion views of her ‘Raise Your Ya Ya Ya’ video.

“[title of show] is a wildly smart, self-aware musical about two writers and their two friends trying to write a musical… about writing a musical before a looming deadline totally breaks them,” Langel explains. “It’s fast, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt, diving into creative panic, big dreams, and all the ridiculous thoughts that pop into your head when you’re making something you care about. This show invites the audience into the chaos, It’s fast, funny, and unexpectedly heartfelt, an honest look at why artists create, how collaboration works, and what happens when you decide to put your messy, unfinished ideas on stage!  The songs are upbeat, fun and Off Glades Theatre has assembled some of South Florida’s finest talent!”

Langel has cast Brandon Kraut as Jeff, Steven Guez as Hunter, Melanie Perkins as Heidi, and Nicole Roach as Susan.  The production’s Music Director Darko Varga will also take on the role of Larry.  Cameron Jaye Scott will serve as the show’s Choreographer, and Sage Meyers is production’s Stage Manager. The male swing is Cameron Jaye Scott and the female swing is Ana Marie Calise.

[title of show] will run from February 13 – March 1 at The Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park (300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL  33486). Tickets are $35 (group rates are available) and may be purchased online at https://www.myboca.us/2648/title-of-show , by phone at 561-347-3948, or at the theatre’s box office.

“In any great adventure, if you don’t want to lose
Victory depends upon the people that you choose
So listen, Arthur, darling, closely to this news
We won’t succeed on Broadway if we don’t have any Jews”

From the musical Spamalot
Music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, Lyrics by Eric Idle

BOCA RATON, FL:  From Arlen and Harburg (“Over the Rainbow”), to Bacharach and David (“Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”); from Rodgers and Hammerstein (Carousel) to Jerry Herman (La Cage Aux Folles); or from Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) to Bock and Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof), Jewish composers and artists have contributed mightily to the great American Songbook, to Broadway musicals, to pop music, and to theatre and the arts in general.  (As Eric Idle and John Du Prez – non-Jews – so humorously rhapsodized in Spamalot).

To Life 6: Stories & Music Celebrating the Contributions of Jewish Composers, Artists, and Comedians to Broadway & Hollywoodwill open in Boca Raton’s Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park on January 16th and run through February 8th.

Once again this popular show will feature amusing anecdotes and fascinating facts about some of America’s most well-known, lauded, and iconic Jewish composers and entertainers who created and performed such musical classics as “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “Get Happy,” “Defying Gravity,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “What the World Needs Now,” and many more.

The production, produced by Hy Juter, and written, directed, and hosted by Shari Upbin will feature top-tier South Florida actor/entertainers Kate Delaney, Bruno Faria, Shelley Keelor, and Shane Tanner.  Aiden Quintana will serve as the production’s Musical Director, and Nicole Roach is the production’s Stage Manager.

“What an honor to be the director of all the To Life shows including To Life 6, the longest running come back series in Florida!” Upbin says. “Over the years we have featured some of  the most talented Carbonell award-winning entertainers in town and highlighted the musical genius of the finest Jewish composers and lyricists of the 19th and 20th and 21st centuries.   Our audiences have been to the Borscht Belt, tasted Egg Creams and looked at the most famous comic books, all stemming from the pens of Jewish artists.  At this point we could even present an entire evening of Christmas songs as so many were written by Jewish composers!

“To Life 6 honors our Jewish immigrant ancestors from Eastern Europe, who came to America, the ‘golden medina’ the land of opportunity and freedom!” she continues.  “Those immigrants whose music have become the greatest influence of American pop culture Broadway and Hollywood in the world! L’Chaim!”

To Life 6 will run from January 16 through February 8 at the Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park.  Tickets are $46; group rates (6 or more tickets purchased in one transaction) are $42.  Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.myboca.us/2647/To-Life-6 or by phone at 561-347-3948.  The Willow Theatre is located at 300 South Military Trail, in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park (33486).

BOCA RATON, FL: Boca Stage is pleased to announce their next production will be at Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park, where they will present Damaged Furniture from March 6th through March 15th, 2026. Howard Skora’s outrageously funny comedy about a totally dysfunctional Brooklyn family received multiple awards and nominations when it debuted in Los Angeles in 2018.

When Doug Elling receives word that his beloved uncle has died in an unexpected – and bizarre – accident, he rushes from Los Angeles to Brooklyn and finds himself at the center of his family’s efforts to salvage their furniture business.  An alcoholic father, his ‘happy-face’ mother, his recently widowed aunt, and his therapist sister all add to the chaos surrounding Doug as he tries to decide upon his future.

Director Keith Garsson explains that “…this show is a reset back to our original mission: the premier production of a relatively new work for the South Florida area.  We had two great seasons of commercial fare at the Delray Beach Playhouse, however this piece enables us to go back to our roots with a very dark, off-beat comedy.  Additionally, since Boca Stage was never intended to be a seasonally based company, the Willow Theatre structure enables us to do shows on an a la carte basis without the responsibility of a full slate of productions.”

Garsson has completed casting for the production: Bruno Faria will play Doug, with Valerie diLorenzo as Laurie, Sharon Pfieffer as Gina, Liz DeBeer as Irene, and Shane Tanner as Phil.

Tickets for Damaged Furniture will be on sale soon and will be available via the Willow Theatre website: www.willowtheatre.org or by phone at 561-347-3948.

January 27, 2025
BOCA RATON, FL: D’Jamin Bartlett, the award-winning actress who made her Broadway debut singing “The Miller’s Son” in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, and Emmy Award-winning composer Mark Bornfield have collaborated to create Confessions of a Retired Witch, a musical comedy that will run from February 27 through March 8 at The Studio at Mizner Park.

Angelina Max, the last remaining witch from a powerful coven in Miami, has lost her castle in a misspell.  She has placed herself in Sunny Smiles retirement community where she tells the other residents, the staff psychiatrist, and the home’s director that she is indeed a true witch, and not just losing her mind and a candidate for the facility’s assisted living quarters. Before she can reunite with other witches, she must pass her magic on to a deserving mortal; in today’s caustic world this is a challenging task, and her time is running out.

“We have been working on this show for a number of years,” Bornfield explained recently.  “It began when I was on vacation in Denver, and I heard a lyric from the song “Miami” by Manuel Riva. (“There’s a place in Miami where they heal your soul, they fill the glass with your deepest hope”.)  It generated an energy and a vibe that piqued my imagination.  Dee’s favorite holiday is Halloween, and those two notions combined quite naturally through vivid imagination and a lot of hard work – making it fun and exciting to create characters that were magical, and that married fantasy with love.”

Confessions of a Retired Witch will be helmed by Barry Zieger, who previously directed D’Jamin Bartlett as Aldonza in Man of La Mancha.  Musical direction will be by Mark Bornfield.  The production will star Bartlett, along with four-time Carbonell Award-winner Margot Moreland, and popular South Florida actor/singer James Skiba.

D’Jamin Bartlett won Theater World, Drama Desk, and Show Business Awards for her show stopping number “The Miller’s Son” in A Little Night Music.  Some of her other Broadway and national tour credits include Lend Me a Tenor, Pippin, and Godspell. She has been directed by Broadway legends Harold Prince, Jerry Zaks, Bob Fosse, and Martin Charnin, played leading lady to Elliot Gould, Burt Convey, and Gene Barry, and appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Other television credits include “Eva” in One Life to Live and many commercials.

Mark Bornfield is a Boston Television Emmy Award-winning composer, a pianist, studio recording vocalist, and trumpet player.  He is a member of ASCAP and has accompanied Vikki Carr, Robert Morse, Whitney Houston, and Jamie Foxx.  He was a featured cabaret artist and solo pianist at Boston’s Copley Plaza Oak Room, and aboard the Seabourn Pride.

Together, Bartlett and Bornfield have been called a ‘chic, sophisticated, and powerful duo’.  They have performed throughout South Florida at major country clubs, restaurants and nightclubs including Turnberry Isle in Miami Beach, Boca West, Polo Club, Indian Creek Country Club, Surf Club and Lighthouse Point Yacht Clubs. Their private and corporate party performances include Greenbrier, New York Regency (Feinstein’s) Orlando World Center Marriott, Mar-a-Lago, and the Ritz-Carlton in Naples.   In the summer, they reside on Cape Cod where they entertain at Lighthouse Inn Resort, Sagamore Inn and other popular places.

Confessions of a Retired Witch will run from February 27 through March 8 at The Studio at Mizner Park.  The theatre is located at 201 Plaza Real (2nd Floor), in Boca Raton (33432),

Tickets for Confessions of a Retired Witch range in price from $64.75 (matinee performances) to $78.25 (evening performances) including taxes and Ticketmaster fees. Group rates are also available ($49.50 for groups of 10 or more, purchased in one transaction).  For tickets and information: https://www.ticketmaster.com (search for Confessions) or email tickets@thestudioatmiznerpark.com.

BOCA RATON, FL:  From George and Ira Gershwin to Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, from Irving Berlin to John Kander and Fred Ebb, or from Jerry Herman to Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein, Jewish composers and entertainers have been an integral part of the Broadway and American pop lexicon for well over a century. (And then there’s Barbra Streisand, Carole King, and even Elvis Presley – Elvis’ maternal great-great grandmother, Nancy Burdine, was Jewish. Her daughter gave birth to Doll Mansell who gave birth to Gladys Smith who gave birth to Elvis!).

These, and many more icons of the stage, screen, and recording studio will be celebrated in To Life 5: Jewish Broadway to Hollywood! Stories & Music Celebrating the Contributions of Jewish Composers and Entertainers to Broadway and the Great Hollywood Musicals. The production will run from January 17th through February 2nd at the Willow Theatre in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park. This all-new 5th chapter in the series will once again feature amusing anecdotes and fascinating facts about some of America’s most well-known, lauded, and popular Jewish composers and entertainers who created and performed in such iconic productions as Mame, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, Fiddler on the Roof, Milk and Honey, and many more.

The production will feature top-tier South Florida entertainers Jinon Deeb, Bruno Faria, Shelley Keelor, and Shane Tanner.   Noted pianist/composer Elliot Weiss will serve as the production’s musical director. Nicole Roach is the production’s Stage Manager.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring another chapter of To Life to the stage!” Shari Upbin says.  “This season we have added stories of The Yiddish Theatre to songs of the Brill Building which includes Carole King and songs by Lieber and Stoller, “Hound Dog,” “Chapel of Love”… along with favorites by Gershwin, Berlin, Sheldon Harnick and Sondheim. This one is going to be a dynamic crowd pleaser!”

Jodie Langel, who starred in the Off-Broadway production for over two years, will direct the show:

“This show reminds us that, when it comes to relationships, we can still find humor in those difficult moments,” Langel says. “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change celebrates love in all its stages. Be prepared to fall in love from the very first date to the very last kiss.”

The Music Director for I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is Richard Kaydas who will accompany violinist Luibov Ohrimenco at each performance. Melanie Farber will serve as the show’s Choreographer. Bryan Morris is the production’s Stage Manager.

Langel’s talented cast of four, Hannah Hayley, Alex Martinez, Bruno Faria, and Nicole Roach will play over 40 roles in the production, as they explore the many ups and downs of different relationships.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will run from February 14 – 23 at The Willow Theatre in Sugar Sand Park (300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL  33486). DELRAY BEACH, FL: Boca Stage’s final production of their first season in their new home at the Delray Beach Playhouse is the South Florida premiere of Ken Levine’s America’s Sexiest Couple.  The comedy will run from April 18th – 27th.

“The play is terrifically clever and sharp,” says Genie Croft, who will direct the production. “Ken Levine’s writing is, as always, brilliant and funny and satirical.  He really pokes fun at the TV celebrity culture. But,” she adds “The play has surprising poignancy and depth as well.”

Kim Ostrenko and Wayne LeGette will star as Craig and Susan who were the stars of a successful 90s sitcom, ‘Residents’, when Susan left the show without explanation. 25 years later, they are reunited at the funeral of one of their cast mates. As they prepare for the funeral, they are offered a reboot of ‘Residents’. Issues from the past resurface as they contemplate their present situations and the possibility of a future. Was the spark between them all those years ago merely the characters, or was it really them?  Forrest Stringfellow will also be featured in the production as ‘The Bellboy’.

America’s Sexiest Couple playwright Ken Levine is an Emmy award-winning writer/director/producer/major league baseball announcer.  During a career that has spanned over 30 years, Levine has worked as a writer on M.A.S.H., Cheers, Frasier, The Simpsons, Wings, Everybody Loves Raymond, Becker, and Dharma & Greg, and has co-created 3 other television series.  He has also been the radio/TV play-by-play voice of the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, and San Diego Padres, and hosted Dodger Talk.  He is a contributing cartoonist to the New Yorker Magazine, and he hosts his own podcast, Hollywood & Levine.  His blog was named one of the 25 best blogs by Time Magazine.

The Stage Manager for America’s Sexiest Couple is Francesca Barioli, and Randall Swinton will serve as the Assistant Stage Manager.  Cindi Blank Taylor is the show’s Scenic Designer, David Hart will create the Sound, Stevie Bleich is the Lighting Designer, Alberto Arroyo is the Costume Designer, and Andre Lancaster will serve as the show’s Technical Director.

Tickets for America’s Sexiest Couple range in price from $39 to $69 and are available online at delraybeachplayhouse.com or by calling 561-272-1281. March 15, 2024 (The Ides of March):

BOCA RATON, FLORIDA: Peter Galman, founder and president of Shakespeare Troupe, Inc. (STI), announced performances of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, beginning Friday, March 15, 2024, as the Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida’s inaugural production at the intimate Sol Theatre, 3333 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton.

The production is partially funded by several state, county, and town grants to perform Shakespeare in schools and to bring theatre to the underserved, all the while meeting the Troupe’s mission to train student interns to participate alongside professional actors, designers, and directors.

The STI production of Hamlet will tour schools and other institutions in the region. “When I heard that Shakes Troupe could bring a free performance of Hamlet to my high schoolers, I jumped at the chance,” says André Gainey, Staff Administrator at Somerset Preparatory Academy Charter School at North Lauderdale, who has booked the Troupe for April 2nd.

“Shakes Troupe will do two school shows on April 2nd, to accommodate more than 300 students and maintain an intimacy,” said Galman, “And we’ll supply the teachers with a study guide to engage their students in preparation for the play, in accordance with the standards prescribed in the State of Florida’s CPalms.org website.”

And on March 20th, the Troupe will perform its adaptation of Hamlet for the residents and day visitors at the Jewish Association of Residential Care in Boca Raton (JARC). Ed Barbanell, a professional actor with a disability will play the role of Bernardo – the soldier who first sees Hamlet’s ghost – in front of one hundred or more persons with special needs who will attend the performance at JARC. Mr. Barbanell has taken a previous workshop with Shakespeare Troupe and continues his association with the only company in South Florida performing Shakespeare all the year long.

In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, a young prince acts mad to avoid assassination in a corrupted court while contemplating revenge for his father’s murder. Occurring in a time for elections, morality has acquiesced to the threat of violence, promising only a grave solution.

In less than 2 hours Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida examines the existential threat that the power of the state holds against the power of the imagination in the individual. Hamlet is stripped down to its essentials in the intimate jewel box of the Sol Theatre: a ghost appears with a dreaded message, there’s been a coup, power is being consolidated as witnesses are silenced, spies are everywhere, and traps are being set. “A mind-bending web of intrigue entices and ensnares all who marvel at this polished gem of dramatic literature,” Galman enthuses.

Hamlet will play for four weekends at Sol Theatre, from March 15 through April 7, for a total of 12 public performances. Tickets for Hamlet are on sale now and can be purchased online at https://www.shakestroupe.org/eventlistings. Tickets range in price from $10 to $25.
