BOCA RATON & DELRAY BEACH, FL:  The Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida will present their production of Twelfth Night for two performances only – at the Mizner Park Cultural Center in Boca Raton on August 14th, and at the Delray Beach Playhouse on August 15th.

One of William Shakespeare’s most popular plays, Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy of love and ambition, and centers on twins Viola and Sebastian. Separated in a shipwreck, each believes the other has been lost.  Viola disguises herself as a young man named Cesario, and the now identical sister and brother separately seek their fortunes in the sea-coast country of Illyria.   Viola/Cesario unwittingly captures the heart of the wealthy countess Olivia and romantic and comedic complications ensue. 

The play is believed to have been written between 1601 and 1602 as a Twelfth Night entertainment for the close of the Christmas season, and features several of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters, including Sir Toby Belch, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, the fool Feste, and Malvolio the pompous steward of Countess Olivia’s household.

Founded by noted South Florida Actor/Director/Producer Peter Galman, the Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida’s mission is to cultivate an appreciation of Shakespeare among new audiences through the employment of professional actors trained to give the most authentic performance culled from the cues and clues found in the 1623 First Folio.  The company has performed the Bard’s plays and conducted workshops in multiple venues and schools throughout the state.  

Galman has assembled an impressive cast for this production, including Sara Elizabeth Grant as Viola, Seth Trucks as Malvolio, Johnbarry Green as Sir Toby Belch, Michael Font as Feste, and Laurie Tanner as Maria.  Galman will take on the role Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

BOCA RATON, FL:     Mizner Park Cultural Center will once again host a wide variety of entertainment and events over the coming weeks.  Comedy, music, magic, and live theatre are all on the popular venue’s schedule during March and April.

On March 16th, the award-winning actor Avi Hoffman will host Festival of Classics: A Night of Short Performances and Artist Conversations.  The show, presented by Joseph Papp Yiddish Theatre, Shakespeare Troupe of South Florida, Grace Arts, New City Players, and Thinking Cap Theatre with Emily Ricca Dance Collective, will showcase local South Florida companies performing the Classics.  Hoffman, who will be joined by special guest Susan Papp, will take on the persona of Joseph Papp, the American theatrical producer and founder of the New York Shakespeare Festival and the Public Theatre.

Tovah Feldshuh

Six-time Tony and Emmy nominated star Tovah Feldshuh returns to the theatre on March 28th and 29th for four encore performances of Tovah is Leona! a musical production featuring highlights from the new Broadway-bound musical Queen of Mean, based on Piers Ransdell’s New York Times best-selling biography of Leona Helmsley.  In the production, which sold out in January, Feldshuh, as the disgraced doyenne, comments and sings about anything and everything – from her meteoric rise from office temp to trophy wife, from wheeler-dealer to hotel magnate, to her relationship with real estate rival Donald Trump.

Tom Dugan as Simon Wiesenthal

Wiesenthal, the story of ‘an ordinary man who did extraordinary things’, will run for four performances only, from April 3rd – 5th.  Written by and starring Tom Dugan, Wiesenthal is the riveting true story of Simon Wiesenthal.  Nicknamed ‘The Jewish James Bond’, he devoted his life to bringing more than 1,100 Nazi war criminals to justice. Intelligent, funny, flawed, and noble, Wiesenthal was a universal hero.

Jason Petty will bring his acclaimed musical review, Hank Williams and my Honky Tonk Heroes, to the Cultural Center on April 8th.  Petty a masterful singer, actor, and historian, whose musicianship and songwriting abilities have won him numerous performances at The Grand Ole Opry, will recreate the magic that Williams and his ‘honky tonk heroes’ – the giants of country music – created.

Grammy-nominated pianist, vocalist, and songwriter Judy Carmichael will celebrate the music of swing piano greats with an evening of classics from the Great American Songbook in her show Swing Time!  A Celebration of the Great American Song Book on April 17th.  From the Gershwins to Cole Porter to Fats Waller and Peggy Lee, Carmichael’s mastery of the piano style popularized by Count Basie and James P. Johnson among others, has been lauded all over the world.

Harrison Greenbaum

Harrison Greenbaum will return to the Mizner Park Cultural Center with What Just Happened?  A Comedy + Magic Show on April 25th.   The award-winning magician and comedian, who has been featured on “America’s Got Talent”, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, and National Geographic’s “Brain Games”, has created a unique blend of comedy and magic, jaw-dropping cutting edge illusions, mind reading, and legerdemain, much of it invented specifically for this performance, and never seen before.

Old Jews Telling Jokes showcases five actors in a comedy that pays tribute to and reinvents classic jokes of the past and present.   It celebrates the rich tradition of Jewish humor “and all the rabbis, complaining wives, fed-up husbands, patience-challenged physicians, gossiping ladies and competitive men” populating it. In this futuristic capitalist dystopia, an outbreak of disease killed millions and resulted in heavily regulated human interaction (and intimacy). Anjali has a government-issued job as the madam to a sex robot. The Rocky Horror Show is an outrageous assemblage of – and humorous tribute to – the most stereotypical science fiction and horror movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello outings and rock ‘n’ roll of every vintage. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach… and launches a journey of enormous proportions. BOCA RATON, FL:  Although Evening Star Productions and Sol Children Theatre are not yet through their fourth and fifteenth seasons, both companies – under the direction of founder and Artistic Director Rosalie Grant – are deep into preparation for next year’s productions.

Evening Star Productions 2017-2018 season will begin with David Mamet’s Oleanna (September 21 – October 8, 2017), continue with Shakespeare’s Macbeth (October 26 – 28), and conclude with Peter Gordon’s Secondary Cause of Death (April 20 – May 6, 2018).

Sol Children Theatre will present Around the World in 80 Days (a musical, adapted from the Jules Verne classic by Chris Blackwood, with music by Piers Chater Robinson) (December 8 – 23, 2017), Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (March 1 – 18, 2018), and a musical version of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach (August 24 – September 2, 2018).

Sol Theatre’s final production of the 2016-2017 season, Alice in Wonderland, adapted and directed by Seth Trucks, will run from August 10 through August 20.

“Sol Theatre’s 2017-2018 Season needs to be a big party!” Rosalie Grant explains.  “All season long we’ll be celebrating Sol Children Theatre turning sweet sixteen!  With the exception of Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, which will feature all children and teen actors, we will be casting the Sol Children shows age appropriately, giving local actors more chances to get on stage, and our patrons the chance to enjoy professional actors in great children’s musicals!

Evening Star Productions’ recent production of Samuel Beckett’s existential masterpiece Waiting for Godot garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, along with the honor of a Carbonell recommendation, and the young company’s 2017-18 season will once again offer audiences an eclectic – and exciting – menu to choose from.  “Following the extraordinary success of Godot we’re pleased to kick off Evening Star’s fourth season with the still-relevant Oleanna, by David Mamet, followed by Peter Gordon’s Secondary Cause of Death,” Grant reveals. “Secondary Cause of Death is the sequel to Murdered to Death – which proved to be wildly popular when we produced it in April 2016.  And we’re delighted to announce that Seth Trucks will be back as the inept Inspector Pratt, and Murphy Hayes will return as Colonel Craddock.

“We will be announcing additions to the Evening Star season through our newest endeavor, Sol After Dark, which will kick off in October with a one-act adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth,” Grant continues. “This lineup of productions will feature an all-inclusive evening in one ticket price:  a “bite” of theatre, refreshments and talk backs after the shows which will include Shakespeare, absurdism, science fiction etc… something a little off the beaten theatre path for those hungry for a different bite of theatre.  All of us at Sol are very excited for 2017 – 18.”

BOCA RATON, FL:  Evening Star Productions will warp from one classic musical to 37 classical plays when they present The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised] from June 17th through June 26th at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton.  (The company’s production of The Rocky Horror Show completed a sold out run at The Abyss Stage on May 28th).

An irreverent, fast paced comedic condensation of all the Bard’s plays, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) was written in 1987 by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield (aka Reduced Shakespeare Company), and was first performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  It eventually ran for nine years in London’s West End.  Featured are all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays, meant to be performed in 97 minutes, by three actors.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Singer and Winfield thoroughly revised the show to bring it up to date for 21st century audiences, incorporating some of the funniest material culled from numerous productions that have been performed around the world, as well as references to various contemporary cultural touchstones. Renamed The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised] the show is notable for – among other things – holding the world record for the shortest ever performance of Hamlet, clocking in at 43 seconds, as well as the fastest performance of Hamlet backwards, at 42 seconds.

Evening Star’s artistic director Rosalie Grant has enlisted Savannah Rootes to direct the production:

“I’m so excited to be directing my first play and the fact that it’s Complete Works makes it extra special,” Rootes says. “As the first show I stage-managed, Complete Works holds a special place in my heart. It was the beginning of a wonderful journey of learning the ropes and what it really takes to be the brains of the operation. The best part was working beside Rosalie Grant. By the end of my first show with her we were on the same brainwave. I really grew up while expanding my skills in stage management and direction. I’m psyched that I’m re-entering the world of Complete Works. It is funny, witty, and the perfect combination of physical and intellectual comedy. The cast is incredible and the staff at Sol Theatre provides awesome support. It will be a show you won’t want to miss.”

Taking on over 1000 roles in the production are Alex Weiss, Edward Scott, and Seth Trucks – all of whom are well versed in the works of the Bard. Alex Weiss’ numerous stage credits include the roles of Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and Caliban in The Tempest.  Edward Scott has played The Grave Digger in Hamlet, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice. Seth Trucks studied classical theatre at the British American Drama Academy and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and has performed with the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival.

William Shakespeare’s classic tale of mistaken identity, adventure, and romance comes to Boca Raton August 22-31

Boca Raton, FL, July 29th, 2014:

Evening Star Productions’ August production has just about everything any theatre-goer would want to see on stage: comedy, romance, suspense, adventure, several cases of mistaken identity, and a happy ending. William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors might have been written in 1594, but it’s as funny and witty and sharp in 2014 as it was 420 years ago.

The play’s characters include two sets of identical twins, Antipholus of Ephesus and Antipholus of Syracuse and their similarly identical servants, Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of Syracuse. Antipholus of Ephesus is unaware that he has a twin brother, Antipholus of Syracuse. And Dromio of Ephesus is unaware that he also has a twin brother, Dromio of Syracuse. A major part of the play’s humor comes from slapstick and mistaken identity, puns, word play, and a myriad of comedic situations – and even 400 years after its first production, audiences will still delight in the mix-ups that occur when all the twins converge in Ephesus.

Evening Star Productions will present this clever and still original classic from August 22nd to August 31st at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton.

Evening Star Productions’ artistic director Rosalie Grant, and director Laura Ruchala have assembled a talented group of actors to populate Shakespeare’s Ephesus. Joanna Mandel, Seth Trucks, and Samantha Streich all recently appeared in Entr’Acte Theatrix’ production of Avenue Q. Also cast are Jim Gibbons, Greg Ward, Elaine Levin, Luis Herrera, Michael Mena, Lito Becerra, and Sofia Manolesco.

Laura RuchalaSays director Ruchala: “When Rosalie (Grant) asked me to direct a Shakespeare play this summer, it seemed like the stars had aligned. The Comedy Of Errors Is one of my favorite Shakespeare comedies. Pure silly fun, this play is a romping good time for the whole family. Twins, Shipwrecks, mistaken identity times two, chases, and shootouts; I know our modern twist on this classic will keep everyone entertained. I am doing this as an homage to the late artistic director and star of Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival, Kevin Crawford,” Ruchala continues. “Before he passed away unexpectedly last winter we had discussed him helping me cut the script. Luckily, His brother Todd was able to recover this version – which we will be performing.”

Evening Star Productions’ The Comedy of Errors will run from August 22nd through August 21st at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton. Tickets are $15 or $10 for juniors. Group rates are also available.
