BOCA RATON, FL:  Evening Star Productions will present the South Florida premiere of Brad Alexander and Adam Mathias’ award-winning contemporary musical, See Rock City and Other Destinations, at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton, from January 13 – 29, 2017. (There will be a preview performance on January 12 at 8 pm.)

With a book full of humor and humanity, and a score that incorporates pop, rock, folk and more, each of the musical’s loosely linked stories builds on the last to create a vivid travelogue of Americans learning to overcome their fears and expectations in order to connect:

A wanderer believes his destiny is written on rooftops along the North Carolina Interstate; a young man yearns to connect with intelligent life in Roswell, New Mexico; a woman at the Alamo steps out of the shadow of her grandparents’ idealized romance to take a chance on love; three estranged sisters cruise to Glacier Bay to scatter their father’s ashes; two high school boys face unexpected fears in the Coney Island Spook House; and a terrified bride-to-be ponders taking the leap… over Niagara Falls.

See Rock City & Other Destinations won the 2011 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical and was nominated for Outstanding Lyrics, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Lighting, and Outstanding Musical. The musical also received the 2007 Jerry Bock Award and the 2008 Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre Writing.

Rosalie GrantEvening Star’s Artistic Director Rosalie Grant chose Geoffrey Short to direct the production: “While designing Evening Star’s 4th season I felt it was important to bring a variety of creativity to the table,” she explains. “I’d had several discussions with Geoffrey Short over the past year, and having witnessed his work as actor and director, I felt he would be a perfect fit to direct for Evening Star.  Geoffrey knew instantly he wanted to bring See Rock City to Sol Theatre and Evening Star … it felt like a perfect fit of cast size, instrumentation and story for Sol’s intimate setting.  And from what I’m hearing from the cast as they navigate these early rehearsals it truly is a perfect fit!”

Highways and pilgrimages. The heart and spirit of the show is that it’s an intimate musical driven by the theme of travelling to tell stories that speak to anyone who has loved, lost or searched for more meaning in their lives. Its themes are truly universal.  It’s funny and touching with an incredible contemporary score that I’m so excited to share in its South Florida regional premiere at Evening Star Productions. jake-rockBOCA RATON, FL:  Jake Ehrenreich, playwright, author and academically recognized expert on Comedy, Catskills and the Holocaust, will present a completely updated version of his beloved autobiographical comedy musical A Jew Grows in Brooklyn, when A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 opens at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton for a limited four week run from February 2 – 26. This production will be followed by an additional five performances at the Coral Springs Performing Arts Center from March 10-12.

Filled with new insights gained from his years of interviews, films, writing, and performing since the original 2006/2007 record breaking show debuted at the historic Lambs Theatre in the heart of Broadway, A Jew Grows in Brooklyn 2.0 creator and star Jake Ehrenreich brings a renewed and expanded knowledge of how Comedy, the Holocaust, and the Catskills affected his life, and the lives of so many others.

This new incarnation of the show, co-directed by Jon Huberth and Lisa Ehrenreich, further explores how Ehrenreich, who grew up in Brooklyn in the 1960’s-70’s, struggled with his family’s survivor history, and later with both his sisters and mother’s early Alzheimer’s disease – “and how we all must handle our individual challenges in life.” The production makes use of extensive multi-media, music and comedy to entertainingly convey its uplifting message. Ehrenreich’s extraordinary tour de force performance, filled with laughter, tears and first class musicianship, resonates with audiences of all ages.

Jake Ehrenreich, 60, is an award-winning actor, playwright, musician and author. He has appeared on Broadway in Dancin’, Barnum and They’re Playing Our Song and toured internationally as Ringo in Beatlemania. He has performed and recorded with such diverse artists as Richie Havens, Greg Allman, Whitney Houston, Tito Puente, Jay Leno, and the Smothers Brothers.

A full-length book, A Jew Grows in Brooklyn: The Curious Reflections of a First Generation American was Published by HCI – (Chicken Soup for the Soul), in 2010. Ehrenreich has recorded a CD Yiddish Unplugged, and is currently taping a TV variety show debuting in 2017.

book-2Jake Ehrenreich’s unique historical writings are included in the 2016 academic anthology Summer Haven, The Catskills, the Holocaust and the Literary Imagination, along with those of Nobel laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer and Pulitzer Prize winner Art Spiegelman. His expertise is also featured in the Shoah documentary Making Light In Terezin, and he currently appears with Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Louis CK, and Sarah Silverman in The Last Laugh, a film exploring Comedy and the Holocaust. Jake Ehrenreich will be a special guest speaker at an upcoming screening of the film at the Miami Jewish Film Festival on January 21 and 23.

Earlier this year, in recognition of his numerous accomplishments, Ehrenreich was inducted into the Brooklyn Jewish Hall of Fame; The City of New York and the Borough of Brooklyn created a special proclamation declaring A Jew Grows in Brooklyn Day; and the famous Carnegie Deli offered the ultimate honor by creating a namesake sandwich!

BOCA RATON, FL:  Danny Kaye was world famous as a star of Vaudeville, theatre, film, and television; Sylvia Fine was his primary songwriter, his mentor, his motivator, and his wife.  These two – each strong and fascinating personalities in their own right – are the subjects of Danny Kaye and Sylvia:  A Musical Love Story, which will open at the Willow Theater in Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park on January 13th, and run through January 29th.   The show has played to sold out houses in London, New York, and Washington, D.C.

The young, undisciplined comic Danny Kaminsky met aspiring songwriter Sylvia Fine at an audition for The Straw Hat Review in 1939. (Fine had written the music and lyrics for the show). After a whirlwind courtship they were married in Ft. Lauderdale in January 1940; under Sylvia’s guidance, Danny Kaye rose from an impoverished improvisational comic to become an international star.

Kaye and Sylvia Fine – their performances in  The Jazz Singer, were lauded by audiences and critics alike.  This will be the second show mounted by Black Box Booking and Hy Juter. Their January 2016 production of the aforementioned production, The Jazz Singer, sold out every performance at the Willow Theatre.

“If Danny Kaye had not been born,” a Hollywood writer once observed, “no one could possibly have invented him, it would have been stretching credibility far past the breaking point.”  Kaye was a virtuoso entertainer – an actor, a singer, a dancer, a comedian and a clown. He won two honorary Oscars, an Emmy, a Peabody Award, a Golden Globe, the French Legion of Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Kaye was a licensed pilot (in 1979 he made the Guinness Book of Records by piloting a private jet to 65 cities in the U.S. and Canada in 5 days), a gourmet chef, and a symphony conductor – although he could not read a note of music. And he was the first Good Will Ambassador to UNICEF.

Sylvia Fine was a gifted writer, producer, pianist, lyricist, and Oscar-nominated composer in her own right. She wrote many of Kaye’s best known songs and sketches and contributed numerous pieces to Kaye’s various movies, radio, and television programs.

Danny Kaye and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story, written by Robert McElwaine, includes a number of Kaye’s most famous songs – many of them written by Fine – including ‘Tchaikovsky’, ‘Balling the Jack’, and ‘Anatole of Paris’. McElwaine and Kaye met when McElwaine worked as director of advertising and publicity at the Goldwyn Studios in the 1950s; he subsequently became the star’s publicist and confidant for 20 years.  Danny Kaye and Sylvia explores the romance, the talent, and conflict that made them such a successful – and volatile couple.

The show’s director, Larry K. Bramble has also designed the set and the lighting for the production.  Musical direction is by Annaliesa Trethewey, sound design by Jason Hesler, and costumes are by Mary Ellen Many.

MARGATE, FL:  From Soul to Swing, Kevin Black’s recent productions – created exclusively for Stage Door Theatre – have had audiences on their feet and dancing.  The Soul of Motor City, his tribute to the music of Motown, which was extended several times over this past summer, and Swing! Swing! Swing! his lovingly assembled compendium of Jazz and Swing classics were both recommended for Carbonell nominations.

Black’s newest creation, Vegas: A Night on the Strip will premiere at Stage Door on December 9th, and run through January 22nd.

Vegas: A Night on the Strip dives into the rich history that made the city of Las Vegas a hot destination for entertainers from around the world.  Featuring music from some of Vegas’ most memorable icons – from the Rat Pack and Elvis to the modern-day Cirque-type spectacles; from showgirls to headliners; from high-rollers to high-flying acrobatics…  “with maybe a Vegas wedding thrown in!” says Black.

“When most people think of Vegas, they immediately remember the likes of Frank, Sammy, and Dean…The Rat Pack,” Black continues.  “However, Vegas: A Night on the Strip is so much more. I decided to tell the history of ‘The Entertainment Capitol of The World’, through the construction and implosion of those iconic hotels on The Strip, and the entertainment that graced their stages. Our six vocalists pay tribute to this great city with nods to numerous Vegas icons – not only the Rat Pack, but legends like Celine Dion, Elton John, Tom Jones and Wayne Newton, and the lavish cirque -style shows that dominate The Strip today.

“The creative “workshop” process is my favorite,” Black explains when asked about the evolution of the production. “Arranging new ways to present some old classics and seldom heard gems is so satisfying. Our Musical Director/Arranger Ben Bagby is a master at this and you’ll see his work shine more than ever in this show.”

The six vocalists Black has chosen to bring his vision of Vegas to life are Daniel Bourgoin, Jar’Davion Brown, Arlene Coutee, Chantal Deshaies, Gabrielle Graham, and Brad Rakushin.  Brown and Graham both wowed audiences in The Soul of Motor City.  Brad Rakushin was featured in Stage Door’s recent productions of Sisters of Swing and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.  Specialty artists Cherrise Pawlak and Derick Pierson round out the cast of eight.

BOCA RATON, FL:  Brad Zimmerman will return to South Florida this season in his highly praised autobiographical comedy, My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy.  The show will run from December 15th through January 29th at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton.

My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy is the story of Zimmerman’s struggle to fulfill his dream and ‘make it’ as a comedic actor in New York.  One-part standup, one-part theatrical, and all parts uproarious My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy has garnered rave reviews wherever it has played, including sold out runs at the Northshore Theatre in Skokie, Illinois, and the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, this past summer.

Every mother dreams her children will grow up to be happy, healthy, and successful.  Every Jewish mother secretly – and often not so secretly –  adds specifics to her wish:  A doctor, a lawyer, a dentist, or these days, a Silicon Valley tycoon would make her very happy.  Brad Zimmerman’s mother has finally adapted to her ‘actor-waiter’ son’s career choice and financial situation: “If all goes well, I think Brad is going to buy a bookcase,” she boasts to her friends.
brad_zimmermanBrad Zimmerman has paid his dues.  He spent 29 years “temporarily” waiting tables in New York, all the while chasing a career in acting and comedy.  He tells of his pursuit, along with stories about his childhood, family, and misbegotten love life with warmth, wit, self-deprecating humor, and wicked charm, and combines his years of training as an actor with his innate comedic talent.

And of course Zimmerman also examines the trials and tribulations of waiting on tables – particularly for someone not exactly invested in that career, and with little tolerance for persnickety diners:

“I don’t want 60 questions, get to the point!” he said he would tell restaurant patrons when he sat down for a recent interview for The New York Times. He joked that if diners prefaced their orders by saying they were in a hurry he would say “So go!” He says he did enjoy some of the bantering he did with diners, and often tried out material on them, however there were also ‘the bossy customers who would snap their fingers to get his attention… and the health-food obsessives who elaborately customized their orders and button-holed him over ingredients.’  As he says in My Son the Waiter: A Jewish Tragedy, he was convinced his epitaph would read “I’ll be right with you.”

His perseverance and hard work eventually did pay off, and Zimmerman went on to act – he had a small part in “The Sopranos” playing Johnny Sack’s lawyer – and to become the opening act for a number of well-known entertainers, including George Carlin, Brad Garrett, Dennis Miller, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Rivers who said “I’ve had three great opening acts in my lifetime:  Billy Crystal, Garry Shandling, and Brad Zimmerman.”

Zimmerman worked on the script for My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy for 9 years and performed it in small venues all over the country, including a stint at Stage Door Theatre in Margate, where it came to the attention of producers Dana Matthow and Philip Roy (Respect: A Musical Journey of Women, Old Jews Telling Jokes, My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy). Since then My Son the Waiter:  A Jewish Tragedy spent 2 years at Off-Broadway’s Stage 72 at the Triad Theatre in New York, and has toured the USA from coast to coast, including a very successful run at The Palm Beaches Theatre in Manalapan last season.

BOCA RATON, FL: The beloved tale of the penny-pinching miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, and the awakening of his long-forgotten festive spirit is a seasonal tradition for many. Sol Children Theatre will revisit Charles Dickens’ ghostly tale of the Past, Present, and Future when they present Brian Way’s faithful adaptation of Dickens’ timeless classic. The production will run from December 2nd through December 18th at Sol Theatre in Boca Raton.

First published on December 19th, 1843, Dickens’ novella immediately met with critical and popular acclaim, and has never been out of print. A Christmas Carol illustrates the author’s concerns about time, family, and society’s ills; however Dickens also used his own humiliating childhood experiences, along with his sympathy for the poor, and various fairy tales and seasonal stories to enhance his tale.

“With it paying homage to both a cherished story and treasured holiday, I’m thrilled to be directing this production,” Mitchell says.  “It’s eerie spooky undertones and touching story line have been great fun to play with. Everyone loves a good ghost story and a great Christmas story. And with this play, you get both!”

Director Mitchell’s adult cast includes Jim Gibbons as Ebenezer Scrooge;  Murphy Hayes as Jacob Marley and Joe;  Robert Fabano as Bob Cratchit. Other adult cast members include Sara Grant, Barry Katz, Fern Katz, Constance Moreau, Jenna Wyatt, Jeremy Wershoven, Amy Coker, John Maher, Neil Evangelista, Shafer Ross, and Melanie Leivers. Younger cast members include Eden Wexler as Tiny Tim, as well as Faith Alfieri, and Sabrina Lipp.

Boca Raton’s Sol Children Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre organization founded by veteran director and actor Rosalie Grant fifteen years ago.  The company’s mission is to provide children with a safe, secure, and highly professional theatre experience.  Those children in then in turn provide quality theatre experiences for audiences.  In this production of Charles Dickens’ The Christmas Carol, Sol students will have the opportunity to work with adult professional actors as well as with their contemporaries.

He and Margaret Faulkes, in founding the Theatre Center in London, introduced the concept of informal theatrical performances in school, and the expansion of arts education. In his lifetime he wrote over 50 plays, including Pinocchio, The Mirrorman, and Sleeping Beauty, as well as the renowned text Audience Participation.

MARGATE, FL:  Charity Hope Valentine, Dance Hall Hostess, unlucky romantic, and eternal optimist, continuously searches for true love in Sweet Charity, the Tony Award-winning musical which will open at Broward’s Stage Door Theatre on November 4th and run through December 11th at the Broward Stage Door Theatre.

Neil Simon’s sparklingly clever script, loosely adapted from Fellini’s “Nights in Cabiria”, follows Charity (and some of her very unusual friends) through a series of misadventures, and documents her constant and unfortunate tendency to offer her heart to the wrong man.  Simon updated the story from Rome in the 1950s to New York City in the 1960s while the hippie culture was just emerging and taxi dancers were quickly becoming relics.

“Sweet Charity has always been one of my favorite musicals,” says the show’s Carbonell Award-winning director, Michael Leeds.  With a score by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and a book by Neil Simon, the show is sheer entertainment from start to finish.”

Coleman and Fields’ Tony Award-winning musical’s score includes songs that have become classics in America’s musical theatre lexicon, including Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now, Baby, Dream Your Dream, and Too Many Tomorrows.

“It’s a large cast and it calls for a strong ensemble, (17!) able to handle the Fosse-esque numbers”, Leeds continues.   “Luckily, we’ve got a terrific choreographer, Danny Durr who honors Fosse while still making these numbers his own.   Of course, there’s no Sweet Charity without a – well – sweet Charity and Kristina Huegel is a triple threat who will knock you out.  As you can tell, I’m very excited about this show!” he says.

Kristina Huegel will be joined on stage by Richard Lafleur as Oscar Lindquist, Rick Hvizdak as Vidal, Larry Buzzeo as Herman, and Rasheem Ford as Daddy Brubeck.  Also in the cast are Vickie Anderson, Brody Awalt, Matthew Blum, Jerel Brown, Keagan Tanner Cerny, Jonathan Eisele, Nicole Kinzel, Natalie McPherson, Eddie Morales, Kaylee Olson,  Melissa Rapelje,  Casey Sacco, Sierra Stacy, Eduardo Uribe, Imani Pearl Williams, and Kelly Ziegler.

Along with choreographer Durr, who is currently starring in Stage Door’s Carbonell Recommended Swing! Swing! Swing!, Sweet Charity’s production team includes Dave Nagy as the production’s musical director and pianist,  Ardean Landhuis as lighting designer, Rushnay Henry as sound designer, and Michael McClain, who has designed the set.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL:  Before Rent, there was tick, tick… Boom! This autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer of Rent, is the story of a composer and the sacrifices that he made to achieve his big break in theatre. The musical, produced by KWP Productions, will run from November 4th through November 11th at the Bhetty Waldron Theater at Bob Carter’s Actor’s Workshop and Repertory Company in West Palm Beach.

KWP Productions’ Executive Producer Kimberly Rommel-Enright reached out to the Palm Beach County Health Department to and to FoundCare (formerly the Comprehensive AIDS Program) and Compass with the idea of raising public awareness about HIV/AIDS, and offering them the opportunity to provide information and materials regarding prevention and testing, as well as talk backs with the cast, outreach and testing workers and people living with the disease.  The following performances are in support of these agencies: The Florida Department of Health on Friday, November 4th at 8 pm; Compass on Wednesday, November 9th at 7 pm and Foundcare on Friday, November 11th at 8 pm.*

“Through these collaborations and with the support of Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Walgreens we hope we can raise a little bit of money for the agencies that provide services to HIV and AIDS infected clients, honor those in our community who work in the field, those who have died from the disease, and those who continue to live and fight every day,” Enright explains.

Set in 1990, tick, tick… Boom! is the compelling story of personal discovery.  Jon’s girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, and yet he is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical. The three deal with balancing personal and professional relationships, economic issues, HIV awareness, and, of course, discovering personal identity.  tick, tick…BOOM! is packed full of rock and pop songs, homages to Steven Sondheim (a large influence on Larson), reflections of life in the beginnings of the New York HIV/AIDS crisis, and fun commentary on 90’s culture and Gen X.

“Over 20 years ago I was the founding attorney for our Ryan White Project in my office. For many years (in the early years of the disease) I represented HIV+ and AIDS infected clients in a variety of cases, most often family type cases where I would help them make arrangements for their children when they passed. I also spent one day a week at the Pediatric AIDS clinic. I saw much death and sickness and prejudice. Those were rough years and touched my life in a way I can never fully articulate. I also became a member of our local HIV CARE Council and for over 20 years I have been a part of the board that oversees the money and Ryan White services in Palm Beach County.

Jump forward to last winter when we at KWP Productions were deciding what shows we wanted to do next season. My company manager and another young actor in our company were again trying to convince me to produce Rent. We listened to the music, I cried. I then came to the realization that it was time for us to do the show, not just to produce it but to make it an educational, community project for the public and the company actors. You see, HIV and STDs are on the rise in our community which has already had a historically large population. I regularly work with young (high school and college aged) actors and have become increasingly concerned about their lack of knowledge about the disease and their very cavalier attitude about it as well. They never saw what my generation saw. They have no appreciation for what came before and for those still living with it and taking medication every day to stay alive. I decided it was time to educate this generation and to celebrate and honor those I knew and lost, those fighting the war in the trenches every day and those still fighting and living with the disease every day. The best way I could think to do that was to produce Rent. Unfortunately Rent was under contract to start a tour and despite several months of negotiating with the touring company they would not release the rights to us. So I switched gears. What about tick, tick….BOOM! It was also written by Jonathan Larson and touched on many of the same issues, including HIV/AIDS. By this time I also had a former young company member come back to me to tell me he was HIV positive. It was even more personal now (having never expected to be dealing with this as close as that now in 2016) and I was even more determined.”

WEST PALM BEACH, FL: How on earth can three men do the impossible: act through Shakespeare’s entire canon – 37 plays – in 97 minutes? KWP Productions’ second offering in their newly expanded season will try to answer that question when they present The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] at the Bhetty Waldron Theatre in West Palm Beach from October 14 – 23.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised]) cleverly and hilariously summarizes the beloved Bard’s works through football plays, rap songs, and outrageously condensed comedy mash-up titles (think: Four Weddings and a Transvestite) using comedic reenactments and audience participation. The show is famous for holding the (self-proclaimed) record for the shortest production of Hamlet at 43 seconds.

The ever popular play, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, parodies all Shakespeare’s plays with all of them performed (in comically shortened or merged form) by only three actors. The writers, former founding members of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, first performed the show – originally titled The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, (abridged) – at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1987 and later at the Criterion Theatre in London, where it ran for nine years.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary Singer and Wingfield thoroughly revised the play, renaming it The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised], and bringing it up to date for 21st century audiences, incorporating some of the funniest material culled from numerous productions that have been performed around the world, as well as references to various contemporary cultural touchstones.   The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] both entertains and teaches audiences facts about Shakespeare while ensuring them a rollicking good time.

Steve Enright will direct the production: “Directing this cast is like being given the keys to the shackles of incredibly powerful performers,” Enright says. “I’ve only needed to release them and show them how to find their way out of the box. It’s all about encouraging them to continually ignore all limits.

Actors Christian Cooper, Alfredo Gonzalez, and Josh Nelson will take on close to 1000 roles in the production.

“Being in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised] has been a whirlwind of excitement,” Josh Nelson says. “It involves paying homage to the Bard’s work with a mix of sarcasm, slapstick comedy, and even the occasional ‘potty humor’. However, despite the satire, it requires a deep appreciation and respect for the source material, and it has been an absolute treat to see these great works in a new light.”

His cast mate, Christian Cooper is equally enthusiastic: “It’s quite a challenging piece of work, he explains, “And I really like how it’s stretching my talent as an actor.”

WEST PALM BEACH, FL:  In keeping with their mandate to nurture and support the next generation of theatre artists, Entr’Acte Theatrix and The Peter Halmos Foundation will collaborate with a brand new company – Theatre of Collaborative Arts – to present the award-winning musical play Peter and the Starcatcher.  The production will run from October 6 – 16 at the William G. Skaff Center in West Palm Beach.

Theatre of Collaborative Arts, founded by Carlo Rufino Sabusap, a Entr’Acte Theatrix alumnus, is a new community theatre and arts effort in West Palm Beach with a mission to produce artistic experiences through collaboration.

The winner of numerous honors, including five 2012 Tony Awards, Peter and the Starcatcher was named one of the New York Times, New York Magazine, New Yorker’s Top 10 shows of the year. The play is based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, and was conceived for the stage by a multiple award-winning creative team including directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, writer Rick Elice, and composer Wayne Barker.

Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair, and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love.

A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, containing a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training, who realizes the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Carlo-Rufino Sabusap will direct the production:  “Peter and the Starcatcher is by far my favorite play,” Sabusap explains. “I saw it on Broadway a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with its magic and inventive use of the theatrical experience. It uses some of the oldest, most traditional methods of stage craft, but uses it in a way that is totally inventive and fresh. I’m sure audiences of all ages who appreciate true, live theatre will enjoy every moment.

“We’re working with Entr’Acte Theatrix to bring this show to life,” he continues, “And I’m very grateful for their help and support – something that Entr’Acte has been doing as part of their mission from the beginning.”

“Yes, indeed,” says Vicki Halmos, Entr’Acte Theatrix founder and Executive Producer. “Entr’Acte and the Halmos Foundation are pleased to facilitate the launching of this new theatre venture -TCA – in West Palm Beach. It will bring further opportunities for young people interested in theatrical arts to hone their skills and gain performance experience. Part of our goal, of course, is always to add resume building to their theatrical cache.”

Several of Peter and The Starcatcher’s cast members have been part of Entr’Acte Theatrix’ troupe; others are new to the group and to the stage.

Veteran cast members are Devin Tupler as Molly Aster, David W. Lamphier as Lord Leonard Aster, Rosseroni Paris as Black Stache, and Greg Halmos as Smee, Nik Rosa as Bill Slank/Fighting Prawn, Christopher Lam as Mrs. Bumbrake. New cast members include Tom Matthews as Peter, Matthew Cejmer as Ted, Brayan Betancourt as Prentiss, Alex Fine as Alf/Captain Scott, Amada Ruggiero as Grempkin, and Ben Shaevitz as Hawking Clam/Mack/Sanchez.

Entr’Acte Theatrix is a not-for-profit, semi-professional, showcase company providing opportunities for emerging theatre artists, both on-stage and backstage.  The fifteen-year-old company gives students with a goal of working in the theatrical profession a chance to gain experience in their area of training or interest.  Entr’Acte, as the name suggests, is the “next step,” from classroom to career, and provides the young theatre artist with one of his or her all-important resume-building credits.
