Sol Theatre will debut its brand new company, Evening Star Productions with a performance of V. Glasgow Koste’s I Remain… J. Austen in a limited run from September 27^th – 29^th.

The play, which will star Sol Theatre alumna Ireland Glennon, posits that Jane Austen is alive and well and living any place she chooses to ‘body forth’ at the flamboyant age of 218-going-on-forever. Quirky, jubilant and curious, this Jane’s ironic and comic edge reveals a fiercely independent woman, liberated by her work’s immortality to speak her mind and open her heart. Glennon received glowing reviews when she first played the role in the Sol Children Theatre’s production of the play last May, bringing to life a Jane Austen, as imagined by Koste ‘not staled by custom or stereotype; facing death and the loss of love; laughing at herself; reveling in the sound and sense of language; burning with work; demanding, raging, discovering, and still growing.’

An offshoot of Sol Children Theatre, Evening Star Productions will focus on plays for more for mature audiences, and feature adult, professional actors, as well as young people working towards a career in theatre. The company will offer serious young adult actors, stage managers, and designers the opportunity to push the boundaries of their knowledge and talent in a safe and highly professional environment; enable them to prepare for college, regional, and professional theatre companies; and offer them the opportunity to be critiqued by regional professionals and critics to receive objective evaluations vital to their personal and professional growth.

If your parents knew everything about you before you were born,
would you be here?

Suzanne Gold and her close-knit New York family are delighted to hear she is pregnant, however a (fictional) prenatal genetic test reveals that the baby will most likely be gay. The news forces the entire Gold family to confront issues of bigotry, evolution, and the limits of love.

Jonathan Tolins’ The Twilight of the Golds has been called ‘a meditation on ethics, opera, freedom of choice, and the future of the species’ (LA Times) sheathed in snappy dialogue and comedic situations. The play tackles an issue that is as current and controversial today as it was when it was first seen on Broadway in the 1990s.

“The Twilight of the Golds combines biting comedy and thought provoking drama, with a light dose of opera thrown into the mix,” says director Michael Leeds. “I think it will keep audiences riveted throughout the evening, and talking about it for days.”

The Broward Stage Door Theatre’s producer Derelle Bunn has assembled a talented cast to bring Tolins’ characters to life: James Hesse, Sarah Miller, Jeffrey Scott Leshansky, Larry Bramble, and Phyllis Spear.

James Hesse, who will play David Gold, says, “My favorite quote from the play is “When art is at its most outrageous, when it cannot be easily believed, that is when it most resembles life,” because I think it sums up the importance and the purpose of theater very nicely. Theatre is the world’s longest oral tradition; we have always needed stories to better understand the world we live in. And this play, The Twilight of the Golds, is a story the world needs to hear now. The subject matter is becoming more relevant as science is progressing and we are getting closer to “designer babies””, says Hesse. “Families may soon have to make the same decision the Gold family is making in this show.”

“The Twilight of the Golds is a play about the dissolution of a family,” says Phyllis Spear who will take on the role of the mother, Phyllis Gold. “The playwright has dealt with the situation with humor and pathos. My character deals with the question of how much should we as parents be involved in our adult childrens’ lives.”

The Twilight of the Golds will run from September 20^th to October 27^th at The Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs. The theatre is located at 8036 Sample Road, in Coral Springs.

Auditions for the Boca Raton Theatre Guild/Peter J. Loewy production of RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women will be held on Monday, September 23 at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center/Studio Theatre, 2^nd Floor (201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, Florida 33432), from 10 am – 4 pm.

This is a return of the very first, wildly popular Florida production of RESPECT and will be directed by the show’s original director, Peter J. Loewy. RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women details the journey of women told through Top-40 music. Combining excerpts of 60 songs including “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “I Will Survive,” “I Will Follow Him,” “These Boots are Made for Walking,” “What’s Love Got to Do with it,” and “Hero” with women’s own stories about finding dreams, lost love, relationship issues, entering the workforce, gaining independence, and more.

Casting:
4 females between the ages of 25 – 45, including one African American female.
All must have exceptional singing voices and move extremely well.
A very, very keen sense of comedy is a must for all characters.
Auditions are by appointment only.

Please prepare 1 up-tempo number and one ballad. Pop, 60’s, and/or contemporary rock preferred.

Entr’Acte Theatrix is pleased to announce auditions for The Who’s Tommy on Monday, August 19, 2013. The auditions will take place at Palm Beach Day Academy, 241 Seaview Avenue, Palm Beach, FL, 33480 at 6:30pm. All auditioners should have the following prepared:

Everyone must be prepared to move.

Rehearsals begin on September 3, 2013, and are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. The show opens on October 17, and runs through October 27, with matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be 10-12 performances. A former soldier with lingering guilt. He murders his wife’s lover after coming back from a POW camp, resulting in Tommy’s trauma-induced blindness, deafness, and dumbness. Father to Tommy and husband to Mrs. Walker.

Playwright Ken Ludwig’s madcap comedy Moon Over Buffalo will open on August 30^th and run through October 6^th at the The Broward Stage Door Theatre in Coral Springs.

Having already directed a very successful production of Ludwig’s Lend Me A Tenor at Stage Door, Leeds is delighted with the opportunity to tackle another one of the popular playwright’s chaotically farcical pieces: “When I read the play, I laughed out loud at every page,” he explains. “It’s definitely a crowd pleaser!”

The cast of Moon Over Buffalo will include South Florida favorite Ken Clement, along with Michelle Foytek, Andy Quiroga, Jessica Carmen, Ed Miskie, Susan Slotoroff, Glen
Lawrence, and Miki Edelman.

“Ken Ludwig’s plays are an actor’s dream and George is having an actor’s nightmare,” says Clement. “ Its like a gym membership with swords. I’ve always wanted to do ‘Cyrano’ and ‘Private Lives’. Now I get to do them both at the same time!”

Ken Ludwig is an internationally-acclaimed playwright whose work has been performed in at least 30 countries in over 20 languages. He has had 6 shows produced on Broadway and 6 in London’s West End. He has won two Laurence Olivier Awards, three Tony Award nominations, two Helen Hayes Awards, the Edgar Award, the SETC Distinguished Career Award, and the Edwin Forrest Award for Services to the Theatre. His plays have been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Bristol Old Vic. His best known plays and musicals include Lend Me A Tenor, Crazy For You, Moon Over Buffalo, Leading Ladies, Twentieth Century, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Game’s Afoot, The Fox on the Fairway, Midsummer/Jersey, The Three Musketeers, Treasure Island and The Beaux’ Stratagem. The Award-Winning Children’s Musical is based upon the
popular Little Mouse Solamae book series

The South Florida Writers Association will present My Name Is Solamae, a musical adaptation of the first volume of Author/Playwright Linda Cardinal Schneider’s popular childrens’ book series The Little Mouse Solamae. The play, which won the 2011 South Florida Writer’s Association Playwriting contest, will be directed by Michelle Cote, and will feature The Brown Sisters. My Name Is Solamae will be performed on August 10^th at 2pm at The Roxy Theatre in Miami.

My Name Is Solamae is a quickly paced musical with serious undertones. The play follows the escapades of the plucky little mouse, Solamae, who challenges those she encounters to always do their best. The themes of the play are direct and unmistakable – the heroine’s journey; overcoming adversity, and man (or mouse) against nature. With a cast of eight, a narrator, and a chorus of three, this delightful musical, will appeal to adults and children alike. It is packed with soulful melodies and lighthearted lyrics composed by the late Mark Philip Poncy (Makeover).

Linda Cardinal Schneider graduated Summa Cum Laude from Barry University with a Bachelor’s of Liberal Studies degree in Literature and Humanities in May of 2011 and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science degree in Organizational Learning and Leadership at Barry University. Her essay, “The Path to Silence: The Uses of Meditation,” tied for first place in the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society Writing Contest and was published in What Oft Was Thought, a literary compilation published by the Alpha Alpha Xi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Inc. Ms. Schneider was appointed Website Editor for the Buccaneer, Barry University’s Newspaper, where she also served as a staff writer. She is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, as well as a member of the Phi Beta Delta‏, Delta Epsilon Iota, and Alpha Chi Honor Societies.

The Brown Sisters, who have just released their first CD, ‘Great Reunion’ are a musically diverse Gospel group with a unique sound and three-part harmony blend. This up-and-coming trio were recently recognized and listed by Dr. Lois Delevoe in the Women of Excellence publication.

Along with The Brown Sisters, My Name is Solamae’s cast also includes Elizabeth Abad (Hallelujah, New Theatre’s Miami One Acts; A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare Miami), Omar Bham (Thelonious Monk: Blue Monk, FIU Theatre; Rent, FIU Theatre; Tape, House Next Door Theatre; A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Miami Coral Park Senior High School), Lisa Villacci (writer, poet/ WPBT Channel 2 Television), and members of The South Florida Writers Association.

Admission to My Name is Solamae is free, however a donation of $5-10 is suggested; all proceeds will benefit the Junior Orange Bowl creative writing contest. The Junior Orange Bowl is an organization that serves the community of South Florida and the Youth of the world by providing opportunities for wholesome, competitive, and multicultural experiences.

Entr’Acte Theatrix has teamed with the Intertainment Network’s popular W4CY Internet Radio to bring 2012 The Voice finalist Michaela Paige to the Delray Beach Centre for the Arts’ Crest Theatre. Paige will participate in a live remote broadcast leading up to Saturday evening June 22^nd performance of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Paige is currently in Los Angeles for The Voice finale, and will fly home especially for the Entr’Acte/Spamalot appearance. The young singer, a Boca Raton native, was a popular contestant on last year’s show, and her coach, country mega-star Blake Shelton, predicted a great future for her on the evening of her eventual elimination:

“I love this little girl so much and it’s just the … this is her first stab at this thing, and she’s going to be a star.” Shelton said. “You’re going to see her many times. Her big mohawk is going to be walking across the stage at the Grammys and I can’t wait. I can’t wait. I’m so glad that I had this one small chapter in (your) book.”

As a special promotion, all followers of Michaela Paige on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media will be offered a discount code to use in order to purchase tickets to Entr’Acte Theatrix’ Monty Python’s Spamalot at half the regular price. In order to find the discount code, patrons should visit Paige’s Facebook page or follow the singer on Twitter where she can be found at @FLASinger1. W4CY radio host Dean K. Piper – ‘The Pipeman’ – will be broadcasting the code on his program; it will also be available on W4CY’s Jason Fisher’s 5 minutes to Curtain page and internet radio show. Once the code has been retrieved, patrons can use it to purchase their discounted tickets either in person, on the phone, or on line. This special discount code may be used throughout the entire run of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Monty Python’s Spamalot (‘lovingly ripped off from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail’) is a deliriously funny spectacle that puts a hilariously unique spin on the legendary tale of King Arthur, his Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail. The show features – among other things – lusty maidens, dancing divas, a flatulent Frenchman, and a killer rabbit.

Monty Python’s Spamalot will run for 12 performances only, from June 20^th to 30^th, at the Crest Theatre at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square. The theatre is located at 51 North Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, 33444. Tickets are on sale now, and are available by calling 561-243-7922. Find a Grail and win Tickets to Monty Python’s Spamalot!
The cast and crew of Entr’Acte Theatrix’ upcoming production of Monty Python’s Spamalot have come up with a novel way to promote their show. In true Pythonesque fashion, they have ventured out onto the streets of Delray Beach …and beyond (wearing Spamalot tee-shirts), and have hidden away in various locations – obvious and not so – several modern facsimiles of the objective of King Arthur’s quest – yes… Grails!

Anyone who finds one of Arthur’s coveted cups will automatically win two tickets to the Spamalot performance of their choice. The production will run at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts/Crest Theatre from June 20^th – 30^th.

There are a number of these chalices to be chased – they could be anywhere.
In fact several steins have been stashed – pursuing patrons might find a beaker behind a bush; a vessel near a trestle; or a glass in the grass.
